Hi I have broken my screen, the system is still working, the LCD is still working. The touch screen is not working. Toyota garage is spoke to wants to charge over £1K to fix it. Says the whole unit has to be replaced and they won’t replace the screen. My local garage said they are unable to replace the screen. Any advice gratefully received.
I do not have that sort of money to fix it!
I can see screens on eBay, but don’t know who could replace it if I bought one?

Hi,

there is no option to replace screen only on these units. You need a new one , I mean used from another car.
You need to make sure is the same as yours and someone that can fit for you , or if you are diy oriented you can watch some YouTube videos and do it yourself.
Here is example but you can search on eBay yourself too.

Or another option is aftermarket unit from Halfords for example and they can fit for you. You may also get more extras like Apple car play and android auto.

Gosh, that is frustrating, as only the screen is broken, I’ll search on eBay, I have the product number.

my local garage is concerned that it would need to be programmed specifically for my car, so getting one on eBay may not work? Do you know the answer to this?

many thanks

Hi Emma, There are companies around that will repair the touchscreen but you need phone around to get a good price. This is one as an example but if you speak to them they may be able to repair it for you or offer additional advice. Hope this helps.👍

Hybrid or non-hybrid, it's not coded to the car it's just a case of removing it from the car and fitting the new one

do you have sat nav ?

Excellent thank you so much everyone, for your advice.

Great that as long as I get the correct unit it doesn’t need to be programmed specifically to my car!

For the sat nav, I was using the one on the unit, sadly no CarPlay so can’t use maps from my phone through it. Can’t use sat nav through it now as touchscreen broken.

I was using mainly for incoming calls, reversing camera and music/podcasts. That all still works but have to use my phone or the buttons on steering wheel as the touchscreen broken.

It's physically broken that will do it, you will need to swap the sat nav module over to the new one

Is your car a hybrid ?  Edit. it's a Blue background so it's a hybrid

its all plug and play

Hi all,

I am in the exact same position but in Austria (left hand drive). Emma23, how/where did you find the product number? I have a 2019 Yaris hybrid gr.

Is it certain the whole unit needs to be replaced and not just the LCD screen? I have found a screen only online but no point purchasing if the entire unit is needed.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Hi, I originally called a local Toyota garage, never expecting the ludicrous price they quoted to fix it!

I gave them the registration number and they could look it up and told me the part number.

The chap I spoke to at Toyota was Canadian, Toyota in Canada will send unit off just to have screen repaired, but Toyota won’t in the UK! You might be lucky and they can just repair the screen in Aus.

Yeah, for some reason nobody repairs stuff in this country.

One school we do work for has 3 65" interactive TVs that have had a backlight failure and we've not found anyone who will repair them! The manufacturer will only replace the whole LCD and their quote for that was more than purchasing a new one!

I'm pretty sure it's just a string of LEDs that need replacing but we've found literally nobody who will do it in London for a sane price...!

Thanks! We phoned our Toyota garage and they said the same- full replacement €1,240... Crazy!

I'll have to see if they can tell us what the product number is (somehow I doubt they will).

I find it strange that Canadian ones they fix the screen but UK they don't- does that mean that the screen is fixable?? If so, I would consider purchasing a touchscreen and fixing it myself. I had wondered if LCD was connected to touchscreen and that it would not work.

Any experts have advice on this? Or an idea as to why UK models don't get fixed versus Canadian??

Probably because there are so few electronics repair companies in this country that do component-level repair compared to the Americas...

Dealers do offer a repair exchange last time i looks it was £460+ vat - it's a case of the dealers don't want to deal with it or are not aware

The problem with automotive electronics is schematics and services manual are not available and the parts are either discontinued or so expensive

I have bought complete radios just for parts, on the touch2 the front is its own module connected with flat flex

£60-120 gets you a used touch2, i can give you a part number if you PM me a VIN or just pull the radio out, and it's on the label

Edit. The touch overlays on the LCD so its 2 parts it the screen has been hit it usually bust the touch screen and LCD glass behind it

TBH a repair will cost more than a used unit, 1-2 hours labour plus parts if you can source them, and you are at £200-300
