Hello

I encountered a problem a few days ago, after driving I see my temp at High, two red signals in display and boiling sounds beneath the hood... long story short, I see that my "alternator belt" is gone, and lots of black "plastic" dust is collected on my alternator, I changed the belt, and the other.. because why not, might as well change both - while im down there.

here you see a picture afte I discovered the belt was gone.

Im also wondering if anyone knows the name of the wheely things, and where I could buy(Norway) I tried autodoc but.. I dont know

Now I see after a day of driving I see new black plastic/rubber dust starting too collect at the same place.

Here after 1 day of driving with the new belt.

Hi, I think that the ""wheely things" are what we would generally call pulleys.

I imagine that there is 1 for the alternator, 1 for the water pump & perhaps 1 for aircon?

My guess:

On the belt that broke will be the water pump (because it overheated) along with the alternator and crankshaft pulley (3 pulleys).

The second belt will most likely be driving the power steering pump.

When a belt starts to shred like that, it's because a pulley is either too stiff or misaligned, or the belt itself is not tensioned correctly. With the belt removed, check that the pulleys are not wobbling and that they turn easily (except for the bottom one). Setting the tension is a matter of experience: As a rough guide, pinch the belt at a point halfway between two pulleys, using your thumb and forefinger. Twist it, and you should feel some resistance, but it should be able to rotate through 90 degrees without using excess force.

I think you will need a new alternator and eventually a new water pump and again a new belt and properly adjusted tension.
And to test if any damage has been as a result of overheating.
Remove the belt in question and spin by hand alternator pulley, this with black belt dust around, this should spin easily and freely and quietly. If not replace the alternator with new. Do the same for all pulleys and the water pump.

looking at the pictures I would say the alternator - all the belt remains on the alternator is a clue

see if you can turn the alternator by hand, looking at the other belt it was overdue a change - the aux belt will last 5-7 years before it badly degrades

Edit. When was the cambelt last changed
