Hi Guys

I am new to the forum.

Need some help to determine what causes engine cut off. Its Toyota Auris 1.6D  2017 reg. This has happened few times now. Car engine stops when its stopped on traffic lights with showing engine light umber and red EPS(electric power stering light). When I restart its got no power for a while and then power comes back on. It has happened few times. Two different mechanics has checked it and cannot find anything wrong with it. Its DPF has been cleaned. I have noticed some time it throws white smoke while driving. Any suggestion or idea what could be wrong with it will be much appreciated. Its been services recently.

Hello, With the few things you describe, the temperature sensor may need to be changed. This is also a symptom of white smoke on the exhaust. How many kilometers the car has is another factor that doesn't actually solve the problem but gives you an idea how to proceed further

you need to get it code read.

the white smoke could easily be DPF regen.

Two mechanics used their computers to read the code. They both said there is no fault code. It’s done 114K miles. When it restarts and I press accelerate it feels like it has no power for a few seconds then it picks up power. Is it worth taking it to Toyota garage for diagnostics? Thanks

They are the so-called hidden lesions that go undiagnosed

Or perhaps check a bmw forum and a bmw specialist.
Your car I believe has a bmw engine and Toyota technicians aren’t very good with those. The beemers has their own things and people who drive and work on, know them best.

took it to Toyota Garag and they cant find any thing what is causes this. The want to tear down engine to find the fault which is £900 labout. Might be nore to fix the fault if they manage to find it. Is it worth spending this much money to try an dfind a fault? They are supposed to be expert as its their vehicle should know what could be causing it?

Imo not a good idea to spend  any money to try to find a fault if they don’t know about it. Toyota technicians do not know anything about these cars. Your car should be covered by extended warranty. If not for any reason, find a bmw independent specialist on the net, Facebook, YouTube. Speak to them and book an appointment with them if they are happy to look at your car.
These guys works on these engines every day and they know them well.

he used computer and told me its temperature sensor no 3 needs replacing as its wasn't showing right temperature. But he did not know where the sensor was located? It was bit surprised for me to say the least that he did not know its location?

He is not BMW specialist.

He was trying to diagnose why DPF is blocked?

The 1.6 diesel is the 1WW based on the N47

What temperature sensor there are 2 coolant sensors and 2/3 in the exhaust

does the car have stop/start?

car has start/stop.

I asked Mechanic again he is saying his computer was showing sensor 3 wasn't showing any temperature(some thing like in minus). He tried removing the sensors he knew the locations but this sensor no 3 was still there showing as present. He spoke to Toyota garage but they did not helped him. I spoke to Toyota myself the send me a picture with sensor no 3. I showed that to mechanic he is saying he has same diagrame but that is not the one which shows as faulty and he has already checked it. I am confused myself why a mechanic and Toyota does not know which one is sensor no 3? it does not make sense to me?

Please see picture - the green highligted one is sensor 3 - accoring to Toyota.

any ideas much appreciated.

bottom sensor (highlighted in green)

I am not able to access the information at this time for diagnostics

There are no codes related to this sensor? has the back pressure sensor been checked? has the EGR and intake been cleaned - the swirl flaps are a big issue on these BMW engines
