Hi.............just joined......Daniel here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I would like to inform all members that you will not beat a toyota avensis petrol 1998-2000 for absolute reliability and very reasonable repair costs.I have been a taxi driver for 23 years now and I purchased my first toyota  petrol (7A FE) IN 2010 for £800 at 78,000 miles............drove it until 240,000 miles( a bit naggered).............no new clutch, just one gearbox @ £80 and £100 to fit/stripped it of all accessories(crankshaft sensor, window regulators, all switches, starter motor and alternator plus alloys and all lenses etc)........got £200 for scrap!

Bought another 1.8se in 2013 for £440 in portsmouth 61,000 on clock(£200 to get it back to Belfast)..............scrapped it at 280,000 miles minus all accessories...........1 gear box and 1 clutch in all that time.............£200 for scrap

Driving another 1.8se now/purchased in sunderland 81,000 for £700 2019.......175,000 on clock now/one clutch.............Absolutely no issues with reliability......I"ve never broken down..............

My son also drives a 1999 1.8se bought in2015 @61,000 miles for £600( 110.000 on clock now)........one clutch

My daughter drives a 1998 saloon 1.6 s bought in 2023 @69000 miles for £1000( brexit or what? )

just to add no major problems with these toyotas.................no electric problems, never replaced an alternator, replaced one starter, one crankshaft sensor, and a few window regulators(always had spare ones from previous cars).............They do not burn oil( oil change every 8000-9000 miles)

car tax is astronomical £325 per year

Hello Daniel

Welcome to our forum

Great to hear this, and to proof how reliable the Avensis is......

We drove as every year from London to Algeria and within Algeria where the weather is very hot, we went by our 2010 Estima hybrid, amazing trip with a Toyota with pleasure and confidence....

The car in front is a Toyota!
