Just collected new MT24 YC and tried to use the same USB stick loaded with music in the USB socket located on centre console (the media socket not the charging one)
Car is the premiere version
Can detect sources as DAB, FM and Samsung mobile but the USB remains greyed out!
Tried reformatting stick and makes no difference.
Gave up readingmanual at page 15,453 or somewhare close!
Anyone experienced the same and if so how do you get the car to recognise the USB stick and play music?
I know it can play music from a stick but i just can't get it to do so.....
Thanks

There is another post about this in the Corolla forum I think. The head unit is fussy about the size, formatting and specification of the USB stick.

I bought the following that another user had confirmed worked:

Samsung USB Type-C 64GB 300MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive (MUF-64DA/APC)

Do you know how big the USB stick is and what format it's in?

Also, are your music tracks MP3s or something else?

Guessing here, but perhaps the car prefers FAT32 over NTFS, or vice-versa?

it says it in the manual somewhere but I have a 62gig USB-C stick formatted as FAT32 and works fine

I've often had issues with usb sticks formatted on a macbook as, for some reason, macs put some hidden files on the stick that causes compatibility issues.

Have you tried leaving it plugged in for a while sometimes it takes longer than expected to scan the files on the stick.

I know this sounds a crazy suggestion but when you formatted you USB stick did you give it a name

When I first used my stick I could not find it

However when I reformatted it and gave it a name it then appeared on the device list and all music is shown and plays

the systems are very picky with USB memory sticks

Ah it was a C-HR

https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220515-faulty-usb-c-system-on-new-2024-c-hr/

TLDR

USB-C stick has to be...............

"USB2.0 HS (480Mbps) communication format” and is “USB4 Gen 2 memory stick backwards compatible with USB 3.0/2.0"

A recommended memory stick is a Samsung MUF 64DA/APC

Edit, the issue is the Touch 2/Smart connect is not native USB-C, it is USB 2.0 with a USB-C adapter on the dash

I have a 256GB stick in my Yaris Icon.
I was recently on here asking, as my audio was always off when starting the car.
I finally tracked it down to only when I was on the USB stick. A smaller stick does not have any issue. Nor if I am on BT or radio.

Seems it takes too long to read the stick when it is that large.

Once read though, it works OK, though does take a while to find the music. Over 128GB worth.

Not sure what manual you were reading but the first bit about usb and media is on Page 34 of the multimedia manual.

Only one usb port will work with data at once. music USB will not work with a USB hub according to the manual. So if for example you connect a phone and a USB stick with music / Video only one of these devices will work. You do mention that Samsung mobile is found I sort of remember reading in the manual that if you are using a phone via bluetooth rather than Wireless android then the USB playback option becomes disabled. So you could try disconnect the phone if you are using bluetooth for its connection and see if it then works.
