Corolla Stereo

Hello All,

I get my corolla T3 D4D next week. I traded in my Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 T.Spark for a more economical hatchback. I spent this weekend taking out my Sony CD/MP3 changer, subwoofer and amp. I am not sure what to do with it just yet. It all depends on what I can do with the corolla's factory fitted stereo.

If I was to keep the factory stereo:

1) Does the Factory stereo have CD text?

2) Does it have pre-outs for an amp?

3) Will it support my CD changer (Should work with connects2 device)

If I was to get an aftermaket stereo:

1) Will the trip computer still get displayed?

2) Will the Steering wheel audio controls work?

I am pretty sure I can get adapters online to get the basic functions of whatever stereo I chose to work. It's just the small things listed above that I am not 100% about. It seems I have to lose something to gain something.

If there are any kind and wise people out there that have changed the stereo and have successfully kept all the cars stereo functions I would like to know how you did it please. Thanks for looking into my thread.

All the best,

Ducky.

Hi Ducky

There are many topics in the audio section of this forum, to answer your questions.

Have a look round there, and see what it says, or put my name into search, and see what questions i've answered, i think i've answered all of your questions in the past with other users with the same problems as you.

If your really stuck still, let me know, and i'll give you a hand.

Ok, I have done some research on the web and made some contacts about what can be done with the corolla's factory head unit.

If you keep the factory stereo:

Connects2 makes 2 devices called the MTYS001 and a ATYS001 that will work with the factory head unit and sony devices. Use the ATYS001 for normal sony CD changers and the MTYS001 for MP3/CD Changers. Only the sony 6 disc MP3/CD changer is working with the MTYS001. Both devices will not display ID3 tags or CD TEXT with the factory head unit (Fujitsu Ten)

I used the same method in my alfa 147 (Blankrupt) and I can tell you that the connects2 device for that had no CD TEXT or ID3 tag display either.

This is the equipemnet moved from my alfa 147:

sony 6 Disc MP3/CD Changer Model CDX-T70MX

Alpine 750W amp (350RMS) MRP-M350

Alpine 12" Type-R Subwoofer

All the cables and fuse for installation.

Connects2 device for Alfa Romeo factory head units (Pretty much useless!)

Some suggestions would be much appreciated.

problem is that corolla stock unit does not support cd text (at least my 03 didnt), and it is actually matashuita(panasonic) unit, at least in Continental models...

I would take out factory unit, put in complete aftermarket setup. You will be able to live without trip computer

I have decided not to bother with the trip computer. so what if you get good MPG values? the fuel gauge will tell me all I need to know! When to refuel! I'm going ahead with a after market headunit. Guess I'll lose the audio controls on the steering wheel too. But one day someone will come up with an adapter for that. Pick up the new car today. Have to say bye bye to my Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Twin Spark :( I had good times with her! I had to let her go! she was high maintenance!
