Hi there, I noticed the other day that when I pushed in the brake pedal to a stop, it makes a squeaking noise. Today, as I was applying the handbrake, it was making the exact same squeaking noise. Is this drum brake related? I've had it a month, used, from a Toyota dealer, so obviously I won't be paying for this as it's something they will sort out, but I'm curious, is there anything I can do or would that void my 12 month warranty?

Hi Curtis,Drum brakes often collect dust and dirt over time, which can cause squeaking. It's a common problem and cleaning them might be needed. The brake shoes inside the drums may be worn or need adjustment. If they’re worn down, they can make squeaking or grinding sounds. Some parts of the drum brake assembly, like the backing plate and adjuster, need to be lubricated. If these parts are dry, they can squeak when you use the brakes. If the car has been left sitting for a while before you bought it, rust could have formed on the drum brake components, causing noise when the brakes are applied.Since you’ve only had the car for a month and it’s still under the 12-month warranty the dealer will sort this. I wouldn't bother to start looking yourself as if you do find something and tell the dealer I've found dust or rust etc they could well try to void the warranty and say you had caused the problem.👍

Thank you Bob! It's off the garage again in a couple of days so I'll get them sort it out. I'm guessing it has been standing a while and that's the issue.
