ABS was standard from around 2008 if not before

most half decent scan tools can do an abs actuation, as i said above get a brake test done to find out what wheel(s) are the issue

A junk Chinese reman caliper is a high possibility

Gave it a go but the brake light stays on even with the ignition fully off so didn't want to drain the Battery

That’s a first! If the switch is mechanical You can always get round that by holding it down temporarily with packing or gaffer tape. Or disconnect the Battery while the broom is in place.

hope you get some joy following its visit to the garage.

It will take days of the brake lights being on too flatten a Battery.

So the old Aygo has been to the garage and the mechanic thinks it is the master cylinder. So have ordered the new part hopefully have got the right one coming as there were 2 options, one for ESP and one without. On my dash there is a VSC light so have opted for the with ESP. I am going to try and fit the master cylinder myself. Would appreciate any tips/techniques for fitting please, thank you in advance

suck the fluid out of the master, crack the pipes loose then unbolt it from the servo as you have no fluid loss it should be straightforward

once the new one is in place leave the pipes loose and bleed the master, nip up the pipes and off you bleeding go

Many thanks for the replies. Just not sure how you bleed the new master cylinder if you could explain please. Have read that you have to bench bleed with a bleeding kit, is this right?

you do not have to, it just means you are not pushing all that air into the system you can do it in the car, all you are doing is filling it with fluid

So to do it in the car, fill master cylinder, finger tighten the pipes, press down the brake pedal keep pressed down and loosen pipes (presume both) then tighten pipes and let up pedal and repeat, is that correct

Or fill her up and just get some fluid through it 😉

Oh well that was a mistake opting for the master cylinder for the ESP version even though the Aygo has VSC lights on the dash it don't fit. So have had to return and wait another 4 days for master cylinder for the without ESP version. 😔

2014 is the changeover between the Mk1 and Mk2 Aygo

drop me a PM with your VIN - Autodoc are notorious for cross-referencing incorrect parts

Many thanks for the reply flash22 been to another motor store today and the guy went through the VIN etc and showed me the pics of the master cylinder. So now got the master cylinder on order, should be with me on Monday. Just out of interest how do you remove the filter from the master cylinder, it rotates but cannot figure out how to remove it

Filter? as inside the reservoir?? usually, they just hook out with a tool/pick once you line them up

Yes my friend, it's the filter in the reservoir. I have tried numerous times to no avail. You mention about lining up are there any markers to lineup please.

I can't remember tbh

Every car I've had, I've always found they just pull out with a finger. Of course, I always try to leave it in place to make sure no muck can fall in, but I'm guessing you want to be able to syringe the fluid out?

Just wanted to feedback and thank everyone for their help. After eventually getting the correct master cylinder after 3 attempts. Bench bled the new master cylinder prior to fitting, and re bled all the braking system looks to have sorted the issue. Many thanks
