Hi, could somebody with the genuine 3 door roof bars let me know the distance between the bars please?

I'm trying to decide between buying the genuine rack or one listed on eBay as fitting, which seems to secure the rear bar in the window recess, though it looks tight in that area, kind of surprised a bracket will fit there.

If you're selling a genuine set then please let me know! Cheers

you will need a short roof kit with the bars and foot pack for a 3-door not even sure if Toyota still stock a rack for the mk 1

on a 3-door, the front bar bolts into the door frame, the short roof kit adds another foot into the door frame and the rear bar rests on the roof

Thanks @flash22 I have found this genuine set. There is one eBay seller selling for £234 so it's a bit steep.

There's another set that's claimed to be for the 3 door: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294456093439

I've spoken to the seller, the remain confident it fits as they also sell a 5 door version. It's nearly half the price of the other one, so I'm tempted to take one for the team and try it. Unhelpfully, there aren't any photos of it fitted, I've asked them and searched the internet but no dice.

see the above link, for pictures

the eBay ones are for a 5 door they may fit but you dont get a lot of space between the bars - in turn, it does not spread the load and puts the tie down too close together to be useful and it would be hard to mount a box or bike rack on it

Nah, this one I linked is for a 3 door and the rear bar is secured above the rear window, the spacing is 660mm.

I've managed to get hold of the manual for the genuine Toyota bars with the crossbar and those are 700mm apart. Both are pretty much aligned with the center being where the door ends so they are close to equivalent but the cheapest I can find the genuine bars is £234 and the aftermarket bars are £120 so a fair discount.

Seeing as I couldn't find much info on this, I might as well add that there is another brand called la prealpina and there are several bars that are compatible but you also have to buy their 3 door fitting kit L1112N https://www.laprealpina.net/en/buying-guide/TOYOTA/Toyota Aygo 3 doors 1999+/

Worth noting that the aftermarket bars have a higher weight rating of 75kg Vs 50kg with the genuine bars.

Hope this helps someone in future.

OEM is usually Thule 50kg is what the roof is rated to

I would not trust mounting it into the rear window frame as there is nowhere for it to grip at most you have 10mm max

I would look at the images again as they do use universal pictures

s-l1600.webphow many doors does it have in this picture

I don't think the roof load rating is 50kg, do you have an official source for that? There are 5 door kits that are 75kg.

See the attached version of the 3 door kit that states 3 door on it.

The point of the la prealpina is that it's taking a generic set of bars that probably fit the 5 door also but using a 3 door fitting kit.

I appreciate it's a small gap above the window but if the fitting kit doesn't touch it then it's all good. The front and rear bars have different fittings to accommodate.

For anyone interested, the genuine rack is still available from Toyota, part number PZ403-91611-GA but the price I was quoted was £40 more than the eBay source for the same product.
