Deposit before running finance

Anyone had a Toyota dealer seek a deposit prior to running a finance check...

I politely declined and advised wouldn't proceed unless finance check was done first.  Not that I have issues.. just that I have never had this before from other Toyota dealers.

Nope, I am using the £2650 manufacturer's contribution as the deposit for my ordered car. I plan on taking the value (£9-10k) from my existing car & sticking it in an account paying 4%+ whilst paying Toyota 2.9% for financing that ...

Yeah wife is after CHR hybrid. No contribution sadly and low balled on px (will review to sell) but good thing is got car at decent price via carwow.
