Sticking in park - Yaris Hybrid Design 2024

I’m having issues getting the car out of park. The last couple of times I’ve had to turn the engine off and on again in order to engage into drive or reverse. A bit like rebooting your computer. I thought it was just me but husband has had the same when he has driven the car. Anyone else experiencing it?

I’m assuming whatever is the matter with it will be covered under warranty as it’s only six months old… never had any problems with any other Toyota (and I have had many Toyotas)

Are you using the correct procedure to start the car and is "READY" in green showing on the dashboard? (foot on the brake before you press the "Start" button and then operate the sprung loaded switch on the lever to get it out of "Park")

If you're following the instructions by CPN and you're still having difficulty, then a trip to the a Toyota dealership is the best way to get it sorted.

Hi,

as others mentioned you might have had just put the car into on mode instead of ready mode and doing so it may prevent you from selecting D or R. The gear shifter will remain locked while all lights will illuminate on dashboard , similar to when in ready mode.
When this can happen is if you haven’t stepped on the brake pedal properly or after the 12v Battery been discharged to low state. Two things to doubt check is make sure you step properly on the brake pedal before you press start button and also double check condition of your 12v Battery
