Hi, is anyone running a PHEV on 18 inch wheels?

If so, what the details? size etc. I'm really after a part number 🙂

The RAV I'm looking at is on 19s by default, but for winter I like to drop down a size.

Thanks.

Try: https://toyotadirectparts.co.uk/parts/toyota-rav-4/rav-4-mk-5-2018-present/accessories-rav-4-mk-5-2018-present/toyota-rav-4-2018-present-alloy-wheel-18-3/

You'd have to confirm with them that it is the correct 18" for a current PHEV but the part number is given ...

The 18" wheel and tyre size is given in your Owner's Manual.

Thanks very much. I'll look into it.

There are a few PHEV owners running on 19” with all season tyres including me. I agree smaller rim diameter are usually better for winter tyres, however my experience is such on this car unless you specifically want to have the winter tyres on separate rims, I wouldn’t bother. If you still decide to go for 18’s I would be trawling eBay and breakers rather than paying for new rims at Toyota prices. Even aftermarket non OEM rims will probably be cheaper.

Turns out the manual says snow chains cannot be used on the 19s.

18s it'll be then.

Lots of Americans have swapped to 18inch wheels. But generally it's because they want to put all terrain tyres on and get some extra cushion and grip in serious off road scenarios. Some have added lift spacers to the suspension to get an extra inch or two of ground clearance. Check out the US forums for more.

As Flatcoat mentions, why are you looking at snow chains? I ask because I've also looked into snow chains. We have a second property in the mountains of the North Lakes. Not had any real problem yet with the RAV4 PHEV with it's AWD, even on the stock Yokohamas in the snow. Some slip in some cases but was always recoverable. That said, I am swapping the Bridgestones off the new GRS PHEV for CC2s soon. For better stopping and grip in the snow, ice, and wet weather. Not expecting to have any problems whatsoever in the snow.

I did look at snow socks as a further insurance policy but decided AWD + CC2s is going to be more than good enough.

I carry snow socks here because they is a legal requirement to carry chains, a lot of EU countries require this law in the late Autumn, Winter and Spring Although carrying the socks (or the like)  I do not ever expect to use them and taking the CC2's would not suffice or even snow tyres without carrying such other snow equipment. I've only seen snow here a handful of times in fifteen years, even though not so far away and in N. Greece there are ski resorts.
