95 Rav 4 Alarm/immobiliser

Can anyone please advise me? My wife has a 95 Rav 4 . The alarm fob has a black button and a red button. She arms /disarms the system with the black button. Today for no apparent reason the alarm went off while parked outside the house and would not disarm. She turned off the siren with the special key provided but the indicators have been flashing most of the day and flattened the Battery. I have put a fully charged Battery on the vehicle but it still will not disarm. The red light on the remote handset glows red when the black button is pressed so I would assume it's working. Anyone any ideas please??
