you can change the linked device to the key instead of phone. I got the guest mode again today, so i am going to try and switch to the key to use as the linked device instead of the phone.

today rav4 went to the guest mode, and i had to accept terms and continue, then screen loaded and continued to play the last song that was playing on Apple music carplay.. then i went to settings and selected my profile, and it loaded it fine.

So I tried to set the key up as the profile device but it was nowhere to be found following the online instructions. They didn't match up. So I assume something different has been done in the USA and that's what the instructions were to do with.

If you find out how please let us know.

I am hoping that when I was signed in properly then signed out into guest mode to then sign back in by entering email and password on the Infotainment screen. For my my T account that this has sorted it out once and for all. But I really don't want my profile loading up being dependent on my phone. It's daft. Just make it the frickin key.

i saw the option today on screen, go to settings, profile then when you are in your profile settings, there is a link that says change linked device.

i wil try this tomorrow,  i think it would work better with the key as linked device.

Thsnks. I think I've tried that but there was only the phone showing as a linked device and no key fob option.

If you succeed please do let us know as I'll follow suit.

Yep I can't find it either. I think this is just an American thing.

They seem to have 3 options. Phone via bluetooth, Phone via some long key they download on their phone (I think that also makes their phone the key fob), and key fob.

I think we only have phone via bluetooth as the means of identifying a profile. Or, manually logging in via infotainment screen, when you select Guest then select previous profile with your name against it, then it asks you to login to My T using your email and password.

Since I logged out from my profile (logging in as guest) and then logged back in to my profile using my email and password, it has worked each time since without faff. Profile loads straight off. Probably a roll of about 8 times so far with no problems. I've assumed that actually entering email address and password into the Infotainment display (which the Infotainment had never at any point asked for previously) is what solved the issue.

However, I'm not counting chickens just yet. Also noting my phone was always plugged in to the usb before pressing start.

US Toyotas have a totally different infotainment system from European

Physically looks the same, graphical interface looks the same. Are we saying they used a different electronics architecture, different electronic components, and different software with no commonality? If so that would be highly unusual for any volume manufacturer?

But it does look like they get extra options.

I’d think much of the difference would be the ECU programming?

no DAB/DAB+ but Sirius XM etc.

iirc different satnav although both I believe use HERE as data supplier

Quite possibly made by same manufacturer(s)

& I don't think that would be unusual for a volume manufacturer - they might not like it but they have to do it as they are both major markets with different requirements. Ultimately as far as assembly it's just plugging a different box into the rest of the car.

I admit on not being totally up on the current status quo but Europe used to have Touch/Touch 2 & USA had Entune. Possibly with Connect/SmartConnect there may be more commonality.

Fair points although I suspect the current infotainment system differences are a few plug in electronic modules or mini boards, satellite radio or DAB. Key thing in the above seem like software differences in terms of what triggers your profile to load.

During the first month in March my car wanted me to sign in a few time, just emailed and password on the infotainment screen even though my phone was with me. After 2-3 times it stopped bothering me. There isn't other ID device except the phone.

I seem to recall some weirdness on the 2021 car where I needed to drive around a bit before things would work. I assume, can't prove, that it was to confirm the vehicle by location. It was really strange.

Seems working for me now on the GRS.

‘21/‘24 it’s all the same for the Toyota apps. My link to the My Toyota app is pretty solid right now, what a stupid thing to say, but it still forgets where the car is located sometimes. I can still drive distances and it will have me located at my original location. Or will fail to link to the car after a trip or accept I’ve just completed a trip and shows no data. I now just shrug my mental shoulders and get in with life. It is a PTB sometimes but I figure life is too short and I’ve already used a fare bit……….

The linking of the car to the app has always been flaky and then there’s the linking of the multi media system.  I can never understand that the VIN must define the car build including the media system so surely everything could be linked off of that data. Including the date that the initial media software support expires.

100% Ernie.

My profile has now synced successfully for the last 12 drives in a row so I think it's sorted by trying enough random stuff. Although I'm now sure it was the trick on a YouTube video that did it. Logging out and in as guest then signing back in again under my actual profile, entering email and password for MyT.

Profile loading works without having to plug the phone in before start. Also works without My Toyota app being open. Working very consistently now. No failures in the last several days.

bluetooth must be enabled on your phone and previously paired to the CAR_MULTIMEDIA or whatever it's called. Which begs the question, how does it disambiguate from other Toyota's with the same name or is that just sorted through the pairing process which uses a unique MAC address?

i had guest mode today about 3 times,  using iPhone, not connected via cable.  will try with cable connected and see if it happens then.

with the Corolla i used to get "profile could not be loaded" pop up message, which used to happen on long drives, and reappear every few minutues, with the Rav its just the guest mode

Have you tried the suggestions mentioned earlier?

Mine has been fine. Including when the phone wasn't plugged in it still works. Tried it earlier a few times.
