If you don't mind a 1h 40min drive, there is one in Brigg.

eBay - £250

Thanks for that, my car does still drive ok i just need to keep adding oil!! So i could pick an engine up, mines got high mileage so i would like to get it done cos otherwise mines in good nick a+ rock solid.

Any idea what a typical independent garage (cheapish hopefully) would charge to just swap an engine over by any chance?

(Ballpark figure?)

TIA

tbh £4-600, fluids are not cheap - prices vary greatly across the country from £30 ph in Wales to £160 ph in London

then you have the while you are in there jobs like belts, water pump and clutch

Get three quotes and take it from there, but don't be surprised if you can't find someone willing to do it.

Thanks for the helpful replies, yeah dyou think a lot of places wouldnt have the time/inclination or hassle of fitting a secondhand engine?

Cheers

I get the feeling that mechanics just want a series of nice easy jobs these days, things with a quick turnaround etc.

Yeah makes sortta sense ta

oil, fluids and brakes are the shop's bread and butter jobs, they are quick with a good margin

a one man band working out of a garage is more likely to take on a more time-consuming job

Thanks yeah that makes sense anyway its prolly gonna be futile ive converted my Celica to lpg and hav worn out my engine in the process its a pity cos i can still get lpg cheap where i am but it just adds complications to the job too, anyway ill hold out for another engine anyway whilst its still running just in case
