Last night i watched “Last night of the proms”.  Glad to see that they still included Rule Brittania and Land of Hope and Glory.  There have been mootings that these should be dropped.   

regarding “Land of Hope and Glory”, my feelings are that this should be our national anthem, rather than “God save the King”.  In principle, I believe that citizens should be faithful to their country, in preference to worshipping a particular person.  I am thinking of recent demonstrations where people carried placards declaring “Not my king”.  I can accept that some people believe in a republican state rather than a monarchy but, if the protesters were British, I hope that they are still loyal to their country.

Hmm, not sure about that. Everyone in England (+associated other places geographically connected to it) would recognise it but it needs to be something that strikes fear and respect into the hearts of those pesky foreigners across the world. Much as it goes against the grain being of Yanker origin, I respectfully suggest "The Liberty Bell March". More commonly known in the UK as Monty Python's theme tune.

Another option which I like is Jerusalem.  That was our school’s hymn.  But since it is common to grammar schools this might offend people who did not attend a grammar school.  Not sure why it should though.  I left grammar school at 16 in order to serve a 5-year apprenticeship in engineering.

I have requested the co-op to play "I hate Nerys Hughes from the bottom of my heart" by half man half biscuit at mine.

No real reason just eccentricity, the same thinking behind being buried with a fully charged mobile phone.

Well,it beats a bell on a string,as long as I can get a signal 6 ft underground.
