Hi,

2005 T25 D4D manual.

I could do with some help please? My washers suddenly stopped working. I checked the fuses behind the glove box. Nothing blown.

Ordered a new pump motor. Fitted it and guess what? Didn’t work.
is there please any relay involved in its operation?

Later, I’m going to see if the positive feed wire has any power.
not sure what to do next.

there’s no power to motor.

any help would be appreciated.

Could you not trace the stalk switch wiring?

Hi,

thank you for your suggestion.

I took off the stalk switch and disassembled it. All the electrical contacts were relatively clean, including the contacts for the front washers.
what I intend to do next is your suggestion, check the circuit between the stalk and the fuse box. See what that reveals?

another idea I thought of, is to piggyback a new feed from the rear washer motor feed. Run the front washers off the live feed to the rear washer motor? Both motors are close together.

what do you think please?

appreciate your comments.

yours sincerely

peter

" Run the front washers off the live feed to the rear washer motor? Both motors are close together."

I wouldn't do that as this would be a temporary fix. I don't think it will pass the MOT as it it's awkward to activate the windscreen jet. Just operate the stalk switch and measure the voltage. You should be able to rule out the stalk switch it it's faulty or not.

Do the wipers still sweep when you pull the stalk? I'm assuming they do normally, so that would help rule out a problem with the switch.

Thank you both,

the wipers function normally. To measure the voltage of switch, is this done at the fuse box?

thanks guys for you help.

Wow, I never realised there was a relay. Really appreciate your digging to help.

Thank you

Hi,

have looked under the bonet at the two fuse and relay compartments,  together behind the glove box on the bulkhead passenger side.

cant see that particular relay. Am I missing another location of fuses and relays?

I am not familiar with the Avensis, but on some Toyotas, there is another relay box/fuse behind the glove compartment. Please check...

Hi,

have checked there too.

Ill try and find out if there’s another place for fuses and relays.

thanks again for replying.

Hi,

finally found the windscreen wiper/washer relay. It mounted drivers side behind the plastic access panel.

it has the number of the relay etched onto the holding bracket.

Well done for locating the relay. You could try and measure the voltage and try and get someone to listen to the clicking if you have a helper. Good luck.

Hi,

I intend to take the relay off the car and test it. It won’t be for a few days though. Please be patient with me. I certainly will do it.
thankfully, these relays are not expensive, about £10-15 plus p/p second hand and tested.
Will let you know as soon as I can.

Hi, it’s appalling weather here. unable to do anything to the car as it’s so wet.
Because there is a multi plug wiring harness attached to this particular relay, I’ve decided to order a tested second hand relay. It’s only £9.95. I thought it would save me time and head scratching. It should arrive hopefully in a few days.

I’ll fit it and let you know.

hi everyone,
After an afternoon fiddling under the drivers side facial, getting the relay out was very difficult to extract.

fitting the second hand one made absolutely no difference.
Therefore, it’s back to the drawing board!

I shall remove the front offside wheel again plus the liner and go from there.

apparently, it’s going to rain for the rest of the week so doing any work on the car will have to wait.

frustrating but learning at the same time.

regards

peter

See wiring diagram, see if you could trace the signalScreenshot_20241008-0035232.thumb.png.3db122d789e1b430157c8402cc88258a.png

Hi Perfection,

since my last post, I researched and found there was a possibility that the stalk switch could be broken.

I purchased a tested second one and installed it but without success.

So today, it’s wheel and cover off to look for the electrical fault.

Regards

peter

The best thing is to trace the voltage since you have the diagram...

Hi perfection,

I did use your diagram. Thank you.

I did find some chaffing of a wire where the 4 wires from both washer motors join the loom. At this juncture, the loom is very tight and it bends over a metal support. After unbending the kink I found some chaffing to one of the wires. I adding insulation tape to the wire and guess what? Both washers now work.
very much appreciate your input.

I was getting to the point of giving up, but persisted and found the problem.

it wasn’t a quick fix. I’m celebrating this morning by having a large cup of costa coffee.

thanks again

peter
