Looking to upgrade my manual fold door mirrors to motorised. Anyone had experience of how to get this done? Spoke to my local dealer who were no help at all

Hi,

you will need the mirrors, the switch and the control unit bought separately.
Then you need to replace all that. Wires are likely to be there already.
There are previous posts about this conversion but difficult to find here. If you search in Google Toyota electric mirrors upgrade or similar they will pop up and you can see. I believe in Auris forum someone has done it.
The cost can be high and some labor involved.
If these are important extras changing the car to a next spec level often saves money and hassle plus you get extra bits like auto lights, wipers, and auto dim rear view mirror. , things that are really helpful in every day driving.

I imagine that he already has powered mirrors but those that you have to initiate folding manually by pushing a switch.

He would need to buy a mirror folding module from e.g. alibaba (probably ~£25 iirc) & splice into the connections.

I think icon cars has only manually folding mirrors. Totally different from design and above.  They don’t even has the switch on the door card.

Done this on a previous Peugeot - its only 2 extra wires for the folding function as IIRC the folding motor units most vehicle manufactures fit inside the mirrors are normally made by Magneti Marelli

If the wiring is there in the cabin loom & both door wiring looms it should be a simple enough retrofit.

current Icons definitely have powered mirrors but you need to press a button to fold, not sure about 2021s - would need to look up old brochures

No, they don’t . Only power adjustment on the glass but if you want to fold them you can not, you need to go out and physically push them in.
That is really inconvenient and no owner will be looking to add auto function if there is a button for it 👍

I would need to go &check again but in 2024 that would be extremely surprising on a £30k+ vehicle .

On Avensis (& I do realise that Corolla is a "cheaper/lower market" product) depending upon year & spec. you had 3 different specs. of mirror - fully manual, power-folding but manually initiated & powered auto-folding.

& actually, owners do look to add auto-folding as a function even if there is a button (otherwise there would not be a market for the modules at retail) _ even considered it myself.
