Hi everyone,

Recently we took a test drive of BZ4X at a dealership.

As soon as I have reached the highway and hit the gas pedal, I was unpleasantly surprised by how noisy the cabin is.

I don't know what was that - the road, the wheels, or the wind hitting the window, but I have the impression that some ICE cars are way more quiet even on the bigger speeds.

Is that just me, or is everyone okay with the noise levels?

Hi Yaro, my RAV4 has an unacceptable level of road noise which could be the original Toyota tyres.

I put up with it as I do like the vehicle but certainly will have an influence when it comes time to change.

It seems like a newer Toyota cars post 2012 has bad road noise levels, I mean it’s bad to the point that can destroy the overall otherwise great driving experience. I even had returned a car because of that previously, the worse car I ever had , so noisy and nasty vibrating thing .
Generally speaking hybrids and electric cars are more prone to road and wind noise because no engine or engine off but all that has no impact on speeds over 40mph . This is the speed where the accumulated road and wind noise from outside will exceed any eventual engine noise and there will be no difference if you drive petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric car. , it will be all down to cabin nvh capabilities.
It’s not like Toyota cars has no noise insulation Becky they do have but there is something that is missing, and in general how they were built in comparison to European cars which are indeed more refined, although they do start becoming like Toyota, especially the smaller ones up to a golf size.
We have a BYD Atto 3  ev and this car is literally silent, it’s like  Bentley inside up to 50 mph. It is se well built and insulated with solid and heavy doors with tons of rubber seals, soft materials, and thick carpets everywhere including the boot. Now go check your Toyota and you will see hard plastics, thin carpets, very few rubber seals and metal bodywork thin as aluminium foil, the results are 3 mpg more but horrible place to be at speeds .

I notice with my AWD that when i drive with the rear seats folded down I can't hear the motors a lot more, & people who sit in the back say they can't always hear me talking very well because of the motor noise

I tested more than 10 different EV models on the market. Among them, the Nissan Ariya and Toyota bZ4X stood out as the quietest vehicles.

Just taken delivery 50 miles to dealer in Gen 4 Prius 50 back in Bz4x so easy to compare.  Very quiet very very quick in most part loving it already. If you think the BZ is noisy try the Honda eny, that's very noisy. Motor whine, road and wind noise from door mirrors.

I was skeptical about the 20 inch wheels. Still don't like them but they are quiet least on FWD vision.

I haven't tried them, as they weren't on my short list 😊. MG is really budget-friendly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is..
