Hello all viewing,

I have just purchased a 2001 51 corolla 1.4 vvti after choping in my 1990 G 1.3GL 5dr. Sad to see it go but the accident damage after a meeting with some austrian tourists in scotland was just too much to take.

The only thing I was wondering is whether or not this is similar to the ae111 'round headlight' model that it superceded? I feel like a right ignorant b*****d but everyone I know owns Clios and Fiestas so there is nobody to ask round here (sob).

i would say there's no resemblanc either visually or mechanically between the two. the 1.6 may share the same engine as the facelifted e11 corolla but i think thats it

Firstly, welcome to TOC!!

The frog eyed :P (sorry) round lights Corolla stopped in 2000 on a V plate. The facelifted version which has a twin type headlight ran from 2000 on a V, until the e112 was released on a 51 plate just before the 2002 (02) plate. They therefore had a small period of both the e111 and e112 on 51 plates, so if you are sure it is a 2001 car then it should be the e111.

The facelifted e111 (51 plate) is same as second from the left, the others are old e111 (round lights)

As for the engines, the old e111 used a 4afe engine but the facelifted e111 has the vvti.

But i suppose "frog" makes you think of france so we will stick with "bug eyes" then! lol
