Not the case in any PHEV. It will fire up seemingly randomly...

When it feels it needs to lubricate the engine and prevent things seizing.

When you accelerate hard on rare occasion unless auto HV/EV selected.

Going down a steep hill to provide engine braking.

Putting on the front demister as it's more efficient.

Etc.
