MOT expired

My daughter has let her MOT expire, she said she forgot it was due.  When she has booked it in it will be legal for her to drive to the garage but I was wondering what is the legal position if the car fails, can she drive it home?

I think the exact rule is that the car must be insured, and must be taken to the Mot station by the shortest route, and back by the shortest route if it fails the MoT and, in such a case, must be kept off the public highway.

I'm pretty sure if the car is identified to have major and dangerous issues with it during the MOT, you legally won't be able to drive it back unless they get fixed, because technically it's too dangerous to be on the road.

My daughter is back on the road - MOT passed.

She has a slightly unusual vehicle, a mini van.  Not many of these on the road as it didn't sell well and was only made for two years about 2013/2014.  It always attracts attention when she parks so she is happy about this as she has sign writing on the sides to advertise her business.

Pleased to hear it has passed its MoT.  Just because it did not sell well does not mean there is anything technically wrong with it.  Manufacturers often end a production line early - sometimes because a vehicle is too good at the sale price, and upping the price could benefit the competition.

iirc the van was based on the Clubman estate late 12-15 with a few stragglers at the end aka the Clubvan, tbh the French have the small van market sown up with a bow on top

Just had a look on, how many are left - less than 1K left taxed on the road less than 100 are auto - most look to be diesel manuals - ulez will have killed them off

Thanks for the reference to How Many Left.  There are 85 Mini Clubvan 2.0L diesel autos presently registered, not bad seeing there was the grand total of 91 on the road in 2013.
