2013 mk3 2 how to remove centre dash HVAC main air vent

As per photo below, I can get it stripped this far with ease, however how do you remove the centre ventilation main unit. i can see 2 screws underneath but when removed nothing seems to move. any hints, the requirement is to find an annoying rattle that seems to exist even when driving with all removed (it’s not the speedo), that just has suddenly started ! I’ve tried wedging various cloths to see what it is, but it seems to be from the main HVAC fan exit point. any help would be appreciated
