Hi everyone,

I've recently picked up my new daily, a plug in CHR, an Excel version if that makes a difference.

I've been perplexed by the following messages regarding map versions. I don't notice anything "wrong" with the version it has but I just don't like error messages 😂

Is there a way to download to usb and perform a manual update?

Grateful for any thoughts. You might be thinking "contact the dealer?" I'm looking for other thoughts 🤭

Got the same message a couple of days ago - there is a Multimedia Unit recall/customer service campaign so check with your dealer and/or the online checker to see if your car is affected. My car is 6 weeks old and I’m booked in next week to get it done.

I posted a thread on this earlier this week 👍

Ooh! Thank you for the update, I looked on the recall page but it said something about not being able to identify my vehicle.

This is my first Toyota but I have to say the software is quite beta stage 🤭

I am led to believe that this is now the default view if every thing is normal 🤣

I had my unit replaced under warranty and it cam back like this, There has been a map update, which `I completed successfully it didn't change before the update or after, but the map version changed

Can you update the map yourself?  When I enquired about an update - my car was nearly two years old when I bought it - but at servicing the dealership told me there was a charge, and never mentioned DIY possibility.  However, I now select “car play” and connect my mobile iPhone for using the satnav.  The “speaker” is Australian, and there are often amusing ways in pronouncing town and village places, and road names.

Allegedly so! Or apparently not, or perhaps .. maybe 🤔

This is an over the air update that it's suggesting I can do (though, like you I'm using Waze through Android auto .. mine occasionally switches gender half way through a sentence but they're both British 🤭)

Update! I'm back in the UK with access to usb sticks and decent internet 😬

So I logged in to the Toyota e store on my computer and bought (for free) "TOYOTA SMART CONNECT Plus (EU)". It was circa 24gb.

Extracted to a 32gb usb stick, formatted to fat32 (learn from me). Plugged it in to the usb port and went to settings, navigation, map, update now and it offered to upgrade from X to Y. It reckoned that it was 30 minutes, I reckon it was 40.

And huzzah, map update complete. It went from version "23-24 version 2 Turkey" to "2024-2025 ver.1"

I still can't update from the menu, it throws the same error 🙄 ah well.

Got a recall letter the other day, my second one. At least they write to you, if it came through the screen then you'd never receive it 🤭

I wish Toyota / Lexus would reword that map update prompt to point owners towards downloading the map update from the E store OR just remove it completely from the system.

The software is a real weak point.

Toyota don't always beta test, but when they do it's on the customers 😂

Well, there is a guide, apparently written by idiots, that is available on the eStore when you 'buy' a map update. And since I did just that this morning, here it is:

Map update Installation guide 2024-10.pdf

I'm not entirely sure that it will help, but it is what there is and it appears to cover both the earlier Touch 2 and later Smart Connect systems.

24GB? is it the entire map of the world? 😅

Nope just European mapping.

I liked the older Peugeot sat nav way of updating maps, it would show all the regions / countries allowed by your vehicles system but you could pick & choose which ones to download & install.

You could also download the complete lot to the USB stick but then pick which ones to install if your in a hurry OR install over several journeys.

I did mine this way took ages to unzip, but less than 30 mins to install into the car

Don't know about SmartConnect but you can do this on Touch 2 with Go, I only have UK & RoI selected to install.

I got a further email from Toyota CS yesterday regarding this pop-up window - they are now saying my car should go to the dealer to get this sorted 🤦‍♂️

Hi everyone, I downloaded the update, put it on the USB, started it and after the fake 30 minutes which became 60 minutes, it gave me an error and should I contact the retailer? Have others had my problem?

If you've got a spare 60 minutes then would be interested to see the error message that you got @Teo1983. What version does it say that you have already?

This thread discusses the map update for the Smart Connect system. Your profile states that you have a 2017 C-HR which, if it is a European car, will have an earlier Toyota Touch system and require a different map update. So, can you:

  • Let us know where in the world you are
  • Confirm that you have a 2017 C-HR (or otherwise)
  • Let us know what multimedia system you have
  • Let us know which map update you attempted to install ... 😉

(The time taken to update the earlier Touch 2 system was around 75 minutes ... )

If you updated the whole map package but if you heavily restrict that much less. I used to load/update only UK & RoI in ~10 minutes.

OK, you've updated your profile now too ... 😉

That's pretty much what mine said (only in English) and after about 40 minutes I had an updated map.

Clearly the USB stick is not all bad because it recognises that there's an update to be applied. You could try reformatting and rewriting the USB drive or trying with a different USB drive to check for a 'glitch' in the preparation of the drive. Or, as it suggests, make it the dealer's problem ...
