Does anyone know the location of the Gearbox filler plug location - 1.33, 6 speed manual gearbox Yaris XP9 2011. Im only topping up / checking levels so don't need to drain it, just find the filler.

Its in a different location to the 3 cylinder 1 litre. Mine is the 4 cylinder 1.33 cc.  A photo or diagram would help but if not just a clue as to which corner of the gearbox I look. The gearbox is covered in bolt heads which could be a filler. I assume the 17mm are just Attachements to the engine. Is it 24mm as on other models? Do I get at it from the top through an open bonnet or do I have to remove a wheel and come at it from the side ?

I can see a large bolt head right on the outside edge of the gearbox but its difficult to see let alone get at.

I have 2 to do as I also have an IQ with the same 1.33 4 cylinder engine and 6 speed manual gearbox.  Photo attached of my 6 speed gearbox in my Yaris

I've found a diagram which looks like its my box and suggests its right on the outside edge of the gearbox which is why I couldn't find it or see it properly. Thus the question is how do I get at it ? Wheel off and come at it from the side?

This was the diagram link

Job done, so here is how I did it in case somebody in the future is looking up how to top up the gear oil in a 2011 xp9 Yaris with 6 speed manual gearbox.

Looking at it from the top you might be able to open the filler with a 24mm spanner. It looked too tight for my socket and I didn't have a 24mm spanner so I went in from the side.  Having removed the road wheel the filler is right in front of you but covered by a bit of plastic wheel arch liner. I removed the 3 nearest 10mm screw nuts and pulled it out of the way. Its then easy just to top it up. Note the car must be level and after jacking it up enough to remove a wheel it is not level so I lowered it a bit and with a spirit level on the roof checked by eye that the wheel centres were level with the spirit level.  Toyota says these are sealed for life but if you want a long life I think it best to check this at least every 5 years if not every 2. Mine has no leaks or noises so I will check it every coupe of years. I did my Toyota IQ at the same time.  NB Experts say you should always put a new washer on as otherwise it will leak. I didn't have a new washer to hand , so maybe doing this job again.  I will keep an eye on it.  75w monograde fully synthetic oil is specified and you just pour it in until the oil pours back out.  I used relatively inexpensive comma oil from Halfords as I was only topping up with a small amount. If I was changing it I would probably use a branded oil like the Castrol.

Great thread and pics. I'm pleased you have been able to do this successfully as it is something I have wondered over on my 1.33 Auris 6speed (2010). Visually yours is different to the Auris but the same questions exist on the location of the correct fill hole.

Well done 🙂

Thanks Mooly. I'm not sure where the filler is on the Auris, it may or may not be in the same place as the Yaris. I did my IQ at the same time and despite being the same engine and also 6 speed, the gearbox is different and the filler in a different location. I added a set of IQ photos in the IQ forum. Its worth you doing that with the Auris as it will show up in search engines for anyone trying to figure out how to do it.  Sometimes I google things and find my own posts from ages ago !

I have the same car. I want to drain the gearbox oil from the bottom 10mm hex. Do you know that washer size?

Hi, do you know the washer size of the 10mm drain plug bolt at the bottom?

I want to drain gearbox oil from there. Thank you.

Thx, just changed oil today. Washer is as same as the input plug one.
