Audio & Subwoofer upgrade / install questions for RAV4 2014

Hi,

I've gone and bought an Active Subwoofer for my Toyota RAV4 2014 (Business Edition). It's going to go where the spare tyre is currently located. Whilst I'm waiting for it to arrive, one of things I believe I need to do is to tap into the sound output for my factory stereo.

Can anyone please provide any guidance on which wire I need to tap into? Any links to photos or videos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey @flash22

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.  Am I right that I can use any of the speaker outputs for the Subwoofer or does it need to be a specific wire?

Also apologies, but I have a couple more questions:-

1. How do I find and get through the firewall from engine to inside of car (either glove compartment or driver-side?)

2. How do I route any wiring that needs to run from back of vehicle ot the front?

Much appreciate your help.

I usually wire the sub on the rear channels

1. not sure on the rav4 will have a look on the portal for you

2. like most cars down the side under the door trims to the back, fuse it within 100-150mm of the Battery

@flash22

The links and info are very helpful, thank you.  FYI, my vehicle's driver side is on the RHD.

Apologies, but I'm still a bit unclear about a couple things with regards to the RHD guide that you've ever so kindly posted:-

  1. Do you have any information or videos on how to remove the door trims?
  2. To get access to the firewall grommet from the engine, will I have to remove the windscreen wiper section or can I get away without doing this?  It's just that when I check my vehicle I can't see any grommet, so it's possibly hidden behind something.
  3. How do I feed the power cable through? Does the grommet have a nipple that can be cut and then cable fed through?  I've read that feeding through the cable can be difficult, so what can you recommend?
  4. The last thing I want is the sub/amp to drain the car Battery, so how do I ensure that the sub/amp is only powered once the vehicle starts up?
  5. Looking at P.18, after removing the glove compartment, is the guide saying that I need to remove a part to access the firewall?  Just so that we're both on the same page, I've looked at this VIDEO which is for a LHD car, but I guess it's the same for RHD.  I paused the video at 1:05.  Can you please show or mark for me on how I access the grommet from here?:-

that car is LHD - they are not a mirror image - to find a grommet follow the wiring loom towards the firewall and ye shall find

door trims are just clipped in place start in the footwell with the kick panel (usually has a plastic nut in the corner the rest is just clips)

Thanks very much.

I'm a bit concerned that I may pierce through some important wires.  How can I avoid this costly damage happening in the first place?

Good day,

I've unfortunately been unsuccessful in locating the firewall grommet.  You will see that from the videos/photos I've uploaded below, that when looking under the bonnet or behind the glove compartment, the firewall is totally hidden and I don't know how to get access to it.  Any guidance, videos, photos on how to get to it would be greatly appreciated:

Hello guys.

Thanks for all your help and advice. I've managed to install the subwoofer. I tapped into the rear speaker wires in the back of the factory head unit. Looks like I didn't need the blue remote cable as when I connect that the subwoofer won't power up. Everything seems to work fine. However the big issue right now is that the actual bass difference between the standard and the upgrade subwoofer is negligible. So I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong?
