Cleaning Egr valve

I occasionally get P0400 error on my 2012 verso. After reset it's OK for 2-3 weeks, then comes back. I suspect buildup of carbon in EGR and/or the air inlet pipe. Two questions:

1) what chemicals do you use to make the job easier? A friend used oven cleaner to good results, but it specifically says not to use on aluminium...

2) what torque to use on the bolts when putting the egr and the pipe back?

Thanks

Hi Peter,Instead of using oven cleaner, which can damage aluminum parts, it's better to go with something designed for the job. Since yours is a diesel, products like Liqui Moly Diesel Intake system cleaner or Wynns diesel EGR Cleaner are good. They will clean the intake and EGR passages.Just spray it on, let it soak in and then gently scrub with a soft brush to avoid scratching any of the surfaces. It should show the torque settings in you owners manual but i believe they are.

Torque settings.

EGR Valve Bolts: Tighten them to around 20-25 Nm.

EGR Pipe Bolts: These should be tightened to 15-22 Nm.👍
