Yes, technically it will sadly.

Toyota told me that the 10k limits are absolute now, there is no time or mileage allowance for going over. They did say that they would consider paying for any future warranty work provided it wasn’t related to the late service.

I had to park my car up and stop using it until the date of the service to avoid going over the 10k mileage limit.

it’s a pain, my last VW allowed up to a month or 1k miles overage of service intervals.

it means I’ll have to now plan on getting the car serviced at 9.5k not 10k intervals so I have some allowance for last minute trips.

Similar with my previous Peugeot - also during the COVID lockdowns I had an email from Peugeot UK that said official service leeway was temporally allowed up to 3k / 3 months overdue.

My dealer also prints at the bottom of the service invoices a message warning to get the next service done within 12 months/10k miles in order to keep the warranty.

So if you are on the 'Relax' warranty Do you mean the warranty is invalidated until the service is completed and then it rolls on or is the warranty  finito, dead, finished for good ?

Not so much as invalidated, rather 'runs out'.

You could then not service the car for 4 years, then after that go and service it and you'd still get 12 months/10k miles of Relax warranty from that day onwards.

However, any problems that developed during the 4 years would not be covered, as Relax explicitly doesn't cover any issues from before it is activated.

Sorry to labour the point, so once John 1964 gets his service his warranty will start again. So in his quoted instance he would have no warranty for 700 miles ? This seems incredibly ' user unfriendly 'by Toyota. I wonder what their rationale is behind this. Money ? i.e shorter service periods = more services.

Yup basically.

It is a bit annoying it's not 1 year unlimited miles, but that's what they spec if you want the warranty. You don't have to if you don't want to.

I'm doing services every 7k miles as  I do 14k miles a year which has been a nuisance since I can't spec a repeated time of year to do them any more and it's confused the heck out of the service agents, who assume annual services, but my Mk4 will probably be one of the longest lived ones in the country

John1964's car is a 2024 model so within the new car warranty period - 3 years/60,000 miles whichever occurs first.

As he is probably going to overrun the service interval by 700 miles, the new car warranty won't be invalidated, but if a future warranty claim is made which was dependent on correct servicing, that warranty claim may not be accepted.

The Relax service generated extended warranty begins on expiry of the new car warranty. As the Relax warranty is generated by having a service done by a Toyota dealer, the warranty period is the same as the service schedule - 1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

If, when the car is covered by Relax, one then exceeds the service schedule either by time or mileage (eg. by one month or by 500 miles), warranty cover will have ceased at either the 12 month stage or the 10,000 miles stage.

When I asked, the official line from Toyota UK I got is if you go even 1 mile or 1 day over the stipulated service interval, the factory warranty is voided.

However, confusingly, I was also told by one agent that the first one is 12 months and unlimited mileage, and thereafter it's 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first but haven't had a consistent clarification on that.

Also, some dealers claim a 1 month/1000 miles of leeway, so smeg knows what's what!

That’s what I was told by Toyota customer services over email.

some dealers still don’t realise and are telling people 1k/1 month over which is wrong.

the free warranty for a main dealer service is probably worth about £400 as that’s what VW/Honda charge.

even though you lose miles by having to get the car serviced early it’s still worthwhile.

I'm travelling around 20-25k miles a year at the moment, so I’m losing maybe 1k of service mileage over the 2 services a year.

These extended time / miles period was only offered during lockdown periods similar to the MOT 6 months extended period.
What frosty explains is the true reality.
Best practice depending on how much you drive is to book your service in advance which for most people can be one month before due date or at least 1000 miles before. Doing so will prevent future complications with service dates availability and warrant claims.

The trouble with that kind of thing is that people will then start booking their cars in two months or 1200 miles after the service is due. It's like car parking - people think they have five minutes grace so they take ten minutes extra.

You just can't win. People in general are poor planners and always like to stretch the goal posts.

Yes - I had a hire VW once that was on the long-life service intervals of 20k, except that the hire company had let it run to nearer 30k still without its first service!

I wouldn't worry about it - You've got Relax to fall back on, and the dealer will probably fudge the numbers so they get paid if they get a warranty claim anyway.

The thing about Toyotas is the warranty is something you're unlikely to need, unlike some other marques where you'd need to be mad or have deep pockets to own it with no warranty, so just enjoy the car and book your services in better time from now on!

I usually book mine 2 months in advance because it gets hard to find a slot during school holidays if I leave it too late!

If Toyota choose this 'no tolerance' approach towards serviceintervals, it's really a bad thing, that the car does'nt give any reminder about oilchanges within the next 1000 miles.

If the engine starts to burn oil at 59.000 miles, would they really refuse to rapair it under warranty, if the 1. oilchange was exceeded with 700 miles?

It's like the doctors working for the insurance companys, seeing connections to other illnesses.

On the facelift there is a countdown to service shown in the dash with miles remaining.

Toyota told me that anything that could be related to the late service wouldn’t be covered. Hopefully you shouldn’t need the warranty, but some issues that come up they might use it to get out of paying.
