2007 Toyota RAV4 XA30 2.2 D4D 4WD Rear Clunk

Over 300k KM (186k miles), was feeling a bit loose and worn. One of the shock absorbers went and I had most of the suspension replaced. But the knocking noise started a few months later. It happens when you start driving at low speed (50 km/h / 30 mph max). I can never replicate it. It's always there, smooth road, bad road, up or down, left and right it doesn't matter. It's driving me nuts! When I get under there I can't find anything!

New rear parts:

  • Shocks
  • Upper arms
  • Drop links
  • Exhaust hangers

Both anti-roll bushes checked and they seem fine? Hardly any wear on either of them.

Original springs, lower arms, swingarms and anti-roll bar. Haven't touched any subframe, gearbox, diff bushes. Neither the driveline.

Something not tightened to spec during alignment? A badly chosen part failing?
