Keyless Startup Security * Breach *

I have the C-HR 2024 Model registered March 2024

Something I noticed by pure accident, I was able to start up the vehicle with keyfob in my presence, step  out of the vehicle with the vehicle still in start up.

My wife was then able to drive away the vehicle and complete a 12 mile round  trip journey without the key fob.

That's how keyless systems work.

Once the vehicle is started you can remove the keyless fob.

The vehicle will detect the fob is out of range & should display a warning.

Hi,
that’s not new and any Toyota with push start button will behave the same.
For the car to start there are few options available where the key fob needs to be placed, touch start button with it, anywhere in the car or in close proximity to the driver seat. Once the car been started no key fob needed to continue your journey at any time length or distance.

I know my previous Peugeot 308 T9 with keyless entry would beep & display a warning if the fob was out of range.

If you attempted to switch the vehicle off & the fob was out of range it would ignore the start / stop button & display another warning about not being able to restart the engine.

It would also require you to release then press & hold the start / stop button for 4 seconds before it would finally shut the engine down.

Thanks for the update.

Perhaps I am being ignorant in assuming the Keyless fob had always had to be in close proximity inorder for the vehicle to be in startup .

I now know, NOT to leave the vehicle in startup warming up mode on cold winter morning whilst parked on the driveway.
