Indicator Light on Dashboard Not Working

Hello,

I have an IQ 1.0. Unfortunately, one of the the indicator lights on the dashboard is not working.

Is this an easy job of replacement. Are their any free manuals/videos I could see so that I could do this job myself?

Does anybody know the bulb required for replacement please.

Thanks,

Ok, thanks. You are very helpful.

But where do I find the relay? Behind the dashboard therefore requires dismantling?

Hi.

There is a used relay as shown above on eBay -as well as a couple of used instrument panels if required.

The electrical diagram for the "repeater light" on the instrument panel is shown as a LED which will be an integral part of the panel. So in essence, it would not be a case of renewing a bulb !

I would be tempted to access the rear of the instrument panel (or remove it), and check the electrical connectors as well as the contacts on the instrument panel itself. The act of simply disconnecting and re-connecting the electrical connectors may solve the problem. But while disconnected, carefully look inside at the electrical contacts to ensure ALL of the contacts are correctly positioned ie not pushed back inside preventing correct function of light.

If all looks ok, re connect the connectors to the panel, turn ignition ON and operate the left side indicator. Now carefully move cable assembly to see if the light illuminates intermittently indicating a possible wiring problem.

Diagram shows the flasher unit is located behind instrument panel.

As a note, I've never removed the instrument panel on my IQ myself so I cannot speak from experience.

Hi Allbadar,

So I take the side panel off and then the large dash enclosing the speedometer. Do I need to remove anything else first.

I am a complete beginner at this so need all the help I can get.

Thanks,

Sorry, Allbadar. What do you mean by 'slightly'.

I have a right hand drive vehicle therefore the the fascia dashboard (in the photo above) is completely different. My apologies for all the questions.

I don't know if any parts of this video are of any general help to you. I know it's a 'reassembly' video, and it's a LH drive vehicle, but it's the best I could find...

OK,

I have been able to remove the dashboard. It can be removed very easily after all.

I can see the indicator relay but it is hard to get to because it is under the brown flat dash which runs the width of the interior under the windscreen. It looks like the relay has some sort of clasp which is in turn slotted into the opposite clasp which is glued to the frame work. I cannot see how to unattach this clasp as well as unattach the wire loom from the relay. Any help would be most appreciated.

The photo below shows the clasp which I cannot get to.

Also, I have found some photos on eBay showing the clasp.

It looks like the tab under the loom connecter needs to pressed in (from below). But I cannot see how to dis-attach the relay from the frame????

Would you be able to take a photo that shows the relay from a bit further away, so I can get a better idea of where it is and what's in the way?

You can just about see the relay hidden under the brown dash. It is hard to access by hand but not quite impossible.

Hi,

The relay is attached to a tab which is then attached to the metal framework with a clasp. This is the connection I meant. I was able to just about get a pry tool to undo this clasp.

It turns out that the relay loom is not long with no wiggle room whatsoever. Although I am able to turn the relay over to get to the clasp underneath and so un-attach from the relay loom.

Next is to order a new relay.

Thanks for you help.

Hi Alllbadar,

I changed the relay as you suggested but that didn't fix the problem. In fact the problem is exactly the same so something else is the problem.

Only just seen this thread, the LED or resistor has failed - the components are surface mount soldered to the PCB
