Indicator Light on Dashboard Not Working

Hi Bob,

The left indicator dashboard light sometimes flickers very faintly and other times I have seen it flash normally for 2-3 flashes but then stops. Indicating a loose connection. Its most likely that the LED is fine and something else has a loose connection. How do I identify the correct resistor on the PCB? Is there a circuit diagram available somewhere?

Are both resistor and LED soldered to the same PCB. Do you know what I need to order please?

Also, one more question. If I were to completely swop out the instrument cluster from a breakers yard how does this effect the stored mileage. Where is the car's mileage stored? In the instrument cluster panel or somewhere else?

ie for this.

if you swap the cluster the mileage will need correcting

have you tried unplugging and plugging the cluster back in a few times so it cleans the contacts

Yes, I have tried unplugging one of the looms but not both.

I guess it isn't any easy case of changing the mileage on a new instrument panel. It's illegal right?

back of the cluster 16 pin connector - left turn signal on the dash is pin 1 (pink) will show 12v when flashing on

the mileage is also in the ecu, it is illegal to alter the mileage so it shows less mileage (clocked) but to correct it or install a new part no issue, mileage is recorded at service and MOT so the system will flag it if changed drastically

If the mileage is stored in two places (ECU and instrument cluster) what happens when one doesn't tally with the other?

Could I install an instrument cluster from another IQ and in so doing it will pick up the mileage from the ECU? Is this possible without having to reprogram the mileage.

press the hazard warning light button about 20 times and observe the left indicator light.

Allbadar, could you give me an insight as to why I am pressing the hazard warning light and what should I see?

Ignition should be on or off?

Off or ON.blue relay is also connected to the button, the left arrow should flash stronger.

I thought the IQ was too late to have the self-test

Mileages are independent and not linked - I have only ever matched mileage from the ECU to the new clusters it will not immobilize the car if different

if you have 12v on the pink that shows you have the signal to the cluster from the flasher relay all external lights work, the ground is internally shared with other warning lights so we know it's not the issue

it can only be the circuit on the pcb of the cluster, I see it flicker like it does it's more likely a bad joint or component if you still have a place that repairs tv's locally most will be willing to do a small repair if you give them the info and point them a the left turn led

Yes, I'm pretty sure that pink wire is getting 12V. I have tested this already.

Hi Alllbadar,

I guess you mean that there could be moisture on the joints (of the cluster)?

for me cluster is ok, where there is moisture on the joints,

I don't know about that. Turn on the heat blower on the windshield when you drive.

Mmm, It might work, but it has been the same through the hot summer weather so might not be moisture on the electronics. I'll try anyway.
