Aygo AB40 (Mk2) high beams bulbs replacement

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello, I am trying to remove the Aygo AB40 (Mk2) high beams bulbs to replace them with Osram cool blue intense but I cannot manage to remove the bulbs.

I cannot find any tutorial on Youtube or this forum, do you know how I can do it? There is a plastic structure around the bulb, I rotated it but I could not extract the whole structure from the headlight cause it seems to be a spring somwhere (that I cannot see). I am opening this topic as last attempt before paying the access to Toyota Tech website

Does the manual not give insight of how to change the bulbs?

no need to pay for access i can lay my hand on most info

the Mk 2 uses projector headlights so it is just 1 bulb for hi and low beams with a solenoid operated shutter to change between the 2

The bulb type is HIR 2 its  twist and pull

Plenty of vids on youtube, but instead of searching for aygo which brings up lots of mk 1 vids, try "108" for mk 2 information.

No, the manual asks you to go to a Toyota center for bulbs replacement

I already replaced the low beams bulbs, so I can definitely say that low beams and high beams use two different bulbs. The proof is: the new bulbs I mounted on low beams are cold white, so when I turn on the high lights I can see the warm white of the older bulbs

The manual suggests a dealer, but still gives the instructions on page 428;

What year is your Aygo or do you have a Citroen C1 or Peugeot 108?

you have 3 sets of lights, Side lights (501 or W5W LED) aka marker lights, dipped beam and full beam (HIR2) you will also have DRLs in the bumper

Pretty sure you are wrong.

On my 2015 Toyota Aygo mk2, I've changed the headlight from halogen to LED, both low and high light now becomes white (whereas before they were both yellow).

The bulb is HIR2 also known as 9012 /  9006 & HB4

Unless:

  • EU had its own design differ from UK OR
  • You have an aftermarket headlight assembly.

this is how the projector lights work with a single bulb for high and low-beam

If you have the HIR2 bulbs, rotormania, then you'd better not change them.

HIR2 su**s!

No matter if you install the 'oficial' alternative (Optiwhites, Toyota ref. 90981-YZZDN), the Philips Xtreme vision, the Osram cool blue, etc, etc all creative names, but very poor performances...

No LED alternative approved in Europe either.

More info in this thread:

the Phillips Whitevision extremes are a lot better than stock, the headlight design has a lot to do with it, especially the smaller cars like the Aygo and Yaris so you cant really compare the cars

There are no legal e-marked retrofit replacement HIR2 LED bulbs, just on heat dissipation alone they need to be in a suitable housing

I downloaded the full version of the manual from Toyota website, by providing VIN number, so there was not any chance of downloading the wrong manual version. The manual just mentions one single light bulb, so it seems you are right by saying that there is just one light that works both as low and high light.

I took photos of the headlamp and lights electrical plugs, and numbered them with the following nomenclature

  1. sidelight
  2. light bulb
  3. unknown (what I previously thought it was the high light)
  4. turn signal light

According to the photos I attached here, what is the thing numbered with number 3? Maybe is the motor of the headlight height adjustment?

I don't agree, I installed  Osram cool blue intense HIR2 and they are amazing compared to stock bulbs

That's not true, Osram night breaker led are legal, you just have to check the compatibility list if your car is listed there

Yes, headlight height adjustment motor.

2 is the bulb you'll need to change for both Dipped headlight and high beam.

You can buy LED bulbs for cars that have LED bulbs from the factory

HID and LED both need to be in a suitable housing and have a cleaning system

I checked it, but I couldn't find neither my Auris nor your Aygo, moreover the UK doesn't show in the list... hmm dodgy...

The Philips UK website says this about the 'Ultinon Access LED':

(I'll take this as a 'no')

they are not legal for road use in the UK in a vehicle that does not have approved light units.

(I believe that you only need a cleaning system for lamps over a certain no. of lumens)
