New Driver and Aygo X owner

Hello!

I passed my test in June at the grand old age of 45 and bought myself a little automatic second hand 2022 Aygo X. It's still a bit daunting getting up to speed with driving and maintenance, so I'm arming myself with as many helpful guides and assistance as I can.

My little Aygo is called Ayame, Japanese for Iris which is my mum's birthday flower. She died three years ago and I paid for my lessons and car with the money she left me. I think she's be proud as she never drove.

Thank you! I had my eye on an Aygo throughout learning, and when I test drove the X I just fell in love with it. So far I definitely think it's helped me as a new driver with the range of safety features etc and the extended warranty from Toyota. Looking forward to getting involved in the discussions here!

Hello and welcome, Amanda.

Next things to practice are handbrake turns and doughnuts (donuts).

😂 Thank you! Although at 45 I think I may be a little long in the tooth and sedate for those! 😂

Congrats on passing! How many minors...? :naughty:

I have to say the new crop of Toyotas are extremely easy and pleasant to drive, a far cry from the under-powered manuals I had to choose from when I passed

Thank you! Just the one minor, and it was at the very end after my manoeuvre. But I am a very anxious driver so it's taking time to feel confident driving on my own. But I do love my little car! Hopefully it will all become easier. I drive most days and I've done a 2.5 hour drive to Maidenhead and back last month from Ramsgate. Nerve wracking but I'm glad I did it.

You did the right thing! I always tell new drivers, drive as much as you can to cement everything in the brain and rapidly build that experience, esp. with the car. It's also very free-ing being able to just go anywhere

You did a lot better than me, I think I failed my first test with 27 minors and passed my 2nd with 4

That was in a manual in London though...! :fear:

One of the guys at work took 15 attempts to pass, so that made me feel better on the lead up.to the test! 😂 But I tried manual.for 4 months and just couldn't get to grips with it. I'd also tried in my thirties. So I'm glad I just bit the bullet and changed to automatic, even though lots of people were telling me not to. I wouldn't be bothered now to retake my test in a manual.
