Just got back from 3 weeks away.

Car unlocked with remote and then died before I could start it.

Put noco GB40 across Battery and turned it on then alarm went off. I couldn't stop it.

After a lot of messing around with the charger and locking / unlocking with remote the alarm stopped and I was able to start the car.

I am thinking maybe unlocking with remote was a mistake and I should have done it with key to save what was left of Battery.

What is the best way to go about this avoiding alarms, etc when you are pretty sure the car will need jumping?

Thanks.

The only thing to avoid the alarm is do not arm it.

If you unlock with key, the alarm definitely sounds as soon as you open door. The alarm is only disarmed by the fob. So don't know what happened in your case, computer must have got confused.

From the manual, under "If the 12V Battery is discharged"...

Vehicles with an alarm
(P.102): Confirm that the electronic key is being carried.
When connecting the jumper (or booster) cables, depending on the situation, the alarm may activate and doors
locked. (P.104)

When the Green Flag guy did mine I'm pretty sure I unlocked with the fob, he connected his Battery booster and everything sprang into life and I could get to Ready mode. No problems with the alarm but you make a good point, ie what would you do if it was so flat you couldn't unlock with the fob and had to use the key?

Maybe it was trying to lock the doors but couldn't because I had the drivers door open?

I had to open it with a key last time as the Battery was so flat. so flat it seems there was not enough juice to sound the alarm. I guess once it gets enough power from another source the alarm will sound. Its then a case of locking and unlocking with the fob once the car has enpough power in order to disable the alarm.

fortunately today I was on my drive but would not fancy this rigmarole on an airport car-park😒

Ummm, the one thing I take from this is that the situation is recoverable, noisy for a while perhaps, but recoverable!

Recoverable yes, embarrassing - extremely🤣

I just want to see if there is a best practice way to deal with a jump for next time.

I like your theory of the door being open caused the alarm. If it happens to me I'll hope to remember to shut all doors before hand.

Just had to jump it again. no drama with alarm this time but don't think I did anything different. A bit fed up it hasn't even lasted 8 days on a full CTEK charge🤬

New cars has obviously a problem with 12v systems and this not necessarily been the Battery itself. Perhaps a software glitch that drains the Battery while car not been used. We all know about these connected services etc.

Now about the correct procedure when you have dead 12v Battery and you need to jump start.
Open door with key, if battery under bonnet, open bonnet and connect to the battery terminals. If battery is under seat or in boot, open bonnet and connect to jump start terminal in the fuse box.
Now about alarm : there are various settings available to choose when locking and unlocking the car either with remote control or with the key , those can be adjusted to suit your preferences via scan tool or with your phone using an obd 2 adapter like Carista.
New cars less than a year old should be covered under warranty including the 12v battery therefore best to request a new battery replacement for free.
Don’t let dealer tell you it’s ok and it runs through tests ok, if the car can’t start after two or three days then the battery needs replacement.
Good luck

That really can't be right. Have you had a word with the dealership? Had it been driven in those 8 days? Maybe a solar charger would be better for you but it is ridiculous IMHO that you are having to worry about such things, especially on such a new car.

Mines been fine since the dealership charged it for me but I'm going to regret saying that!

Replied this in wrong thread 😁

Thanks. Have just written to dealer stating that the Battery life is unacceptable. I expect they will play the game of charging it for me before I get them to replace. I am in two minds about just sticking a higher capacity Yuasa in there but will wait to see if they find any sources of drainage first.
