Hi guys could really use your help here. Had this power steering light on my 2013 aygo for over a month now. Spoken to multiple mechanics but they are quoting ridiculous prices. £500 and onwards and the car only cost me £1800! Could really use some advice.

A very quick search suggests that the power steering module can develop faults due to a couple of soldered joints cracking, Ideally you should have the codes read and see if you get a torque sensing/steering angle fault. I know nothing about Aygos but there are more than a few helpful people on here who might advise you better.

In the meantime here's a couple of videos I found, one quick simple fix and one more in depth. If you could find a decent auto-electrician they could probably scan the car for faults and get you sorted, if it is the module they are available on eBay for £20 to £30, but of course a used module might have the same fault but assuming a faulty module the "typical" fault described seems an easy, and therefore hopefully cheaper fix for an auto-electrician. Please dont assume it's the module though, this is just what a cursory search bought up as a common problem. A forum search brings up a few threads that might be worth reading, a user called Flash22 is very knowledgeable and suggests it could even be as simple as a weak Battery, I'd certainly consider seriously any suggestions he has made or might make.

These are the threads on here dealing with Aygo power steering issues.

eBay link to power steering modules, you'd have to match the number on your existing one.

Had the same problem on my 2012 Aygo Fire.

It all started with a series of clicks underneath the dash when the car is turned off.  Eventually, P/S light came on then no more power steering.

Tried taken the Power Steering Module apart to resolder the electrical joints, worked fine for about a month, then same thing happened again.  (Must be my bad soldering skill).

Anyway, I then went ahead to replace the module.

Although the one came out of my car was 225000 - 0120, but I've replaced it with 0070 (probably an older version).  Car kindly accepted it and no more issue thereafter.

Back in the days (about 2-3 years ago), these modules were cheap like £20 to 50.  Now they are £50 to 100.  The most difficult part of this job is taken the old module out.  Bottom two screw is easy, top screw however, might set you back an hour or two.

Some people have advised that it’s the column that needs changing. I’ve checked on eBay and it’s about £60. The thing is the mechanics aren’t so sure themselves…

Just to back up what Vince and Phil say, not had this issue myself, but in my experience over the years with these cars, the power steering module ECU is more common fault than the actual rack itself. Also, he remembered better than me, but as he says one of the screws/fittings is a bit of a pig to get off, but is doable.

Probably not the column, but the steering assist motor on the column.

It is rare that the motor goes bad.

Anyway, you might want go back to the basic:

1. Check the power steering fuse in the fuse box located inside the engine bay.

2. Scan the module and see what error code you had.

let's start again, do you know what codes you have? Have you had the Battery and alternator tested?

you can do a simple flash test

link the 2 pins shown below, turn the ignition on. you then just need to count the flashes of the EPS light - it is a 2-digit code it will either repeat the code over again or go to the next stored code
