Hi - LV have just sent me a letter saying they are no longer insuring Toyota RAV4s, due to a high number of thefts of this model. My insurance will not be renewed. Anyone else experiencing this?

Exactly not ... I've just received a perfectly reasonable renewal quote from LV= for my RAV4 - up by just 2.7% from last year.

But then, I don't have a "London" address ...

If your RAV4 hybrid hasn't already had the protection plates fitted then I would get it booked in to your Toyota dealer - plates supplied FOC but £70 labour charge.

Also have a read of this thread.

Yes I had exactly the same thing back in April (all documented on here if you do a search). My insurance with lv had gone up each year until this year when they refused to renew cover ,even though I hadn’t claimed insurance or received points. I looked at confused.com but I didn’t want some of the cheap quotes as I knew nothing about the companies with names like “go skippy”. I ended up paying a high premium to Axa+ bu they seem to be well thought of by which. Before covid I was paying around £400 for my insurance, last year it was 800 both with lv. My premium this year with Axa+ was £1250, but only some companies will quote for a rav4 in London so I thought I had better take it.

Funnily just had my insurance with AA underwritten by LV at a lower price than last year at £390.

Rav4 and any major city will have a hefty price tag - LV has dropped a lot of policies over the last year or more when Allianz took full control of the underwriting

Hi.

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you haven't done so already.

Regards,

Dan.

What I don't particularly understand is when the protection plates are fitted...LV etc still won't quote as when you enter your reg it comes up as a rav4 or chr etc and you can't go any further? So quite frankly protection plates may help prevent your vehicle from being stolen when they're wrecking and ripping at your wing, which may mean many months down the line your particular model of car drops off the most stolen and vulnerable models and eventually LV may quote? To me it's not really a solution that helps anyone in the short term...

Protection plates don't really stop the theft, Toyota & Lexus vehicles have still been stolen with the protection plates fitted.

All they do is discourage the thieves to go pick an easier target, they can soon get round the plates if there determined.

when I changed to the Rav4 from the Corolla my insurance reduced by €70.

Main reason RAV4 insurance is either extremely high or refused.
