my cable has been out for about 2 weeks now and i have spent around 6 hours on hold listening to nora jones but its not that bad as MY CALL IS IMPORTANT TO THEM why did i get cable n not sky why?

Cable sucks and is overpriced !!

My NTL contract is due up in October and have been looking in to Sky + which I fancy but having to have a BT line sucks as do BT (ex BT Engineer and customer). I cannot beat the overall package I have with NTL on cost. Broadband 600k plus tv package and phone and have never had any problems other than being able to get through to tech support.

They all have their faults I guess it just depends on your individual needs.

The SKY+ boxes can be very tempremental tho, on my second one within 2 months of having it :/

I never miss an episode of sopranos, even if iv forgot its on!!

What we have now is a sky box and a 'hacked' Tivo box which works really well! the tivo controls the sky box.

You need a sky sub but you don't need to pay for the plus bit.

it works a lot better than sky aswell here are some examples:-

tivo doesn't just record progs that you have set up- you have a thumbs up and a thumbs down button which you press when your watching a program you like, tivo will record the program (nothing new there) but it will also record programs you may like :D :D which is cool

If you put a bigger harddisk and a network card in it you can stream recorded programs from tivo to your computer.

and it has a web frontend to it so you can set things to record at i.e when at work.

I think it's alot better than sky plus (100 times more stable) other thing to look out for is eyetv (mainly for apple's but work with xp) we are testing one now at work and it seems very flexable.

The oversubscribed area's are due to the high takeup of cable services.

For example, I think ntl are offering a free xbox with xbox live when you take up one of their packages.

No fun being in an oversubscribed area, and it can take time to sort out because its pretty expensive installing new UBR's to cope with the load.

However in general the broadband is very good. Cable TV in my opinion though isnt anything to write home about.

And are you seriously saying TW cust services are better than ntl?

Aye, moved from Leeds back to Bristol.

TW are to times better than NTL who got my bill wrong for over 7months, even when I didnt have any tv or internet for 4months of it cos of their stupidity
