Stop/Start ?

Ok I know a few posts from me now,  but I'm a new owner and you folk seem very responsive 🙂

So first car ever with stop start. Initially I had it switched off whilst I got use to driving my new car. One problem or maybe a good thing is the car is very quiet when idling. Anyway I get if I come to a stop at trafic lights etc put handbreak on, take it out of gear, remove my foot from all the pedals it stops. Great this works good. Putting clutch in again to put into gear and it starts, fine.

However, on a couple of occasions after the above and usually at traffic lights it restarts after 30 seconds or so ?

Is that the car camera looking at the lights and thinking they have gone greem, or is it not that clever lol

Its not a problem just seems strange it restarts when I haven't done anything to idicate I am about to pull off ?

Oh and another plus, I filled up the tank the other day for less than £40!

Engine starting on stop/start systems often depends on a number of factors not just being stationary - for example Battery charge, what electrical systems are being used (eg. air con, etc), and so on.

That’s right , and in most cases when the engine restarts without obvious to you reason it you look immediately into the display on the instruments the car will explain you why the engine has started.
The message was something like ASG has stopped due to the air conditioning or hvac system. 👍

Thanks that makes perfect sense. I have always run the AC all year round, as I think that ensures it lasts before having to recharge. My Corsa was still running great even after 10 years of use.

I'll make sure I look at the message next time.

There is also a setting you can adjust for start stop in relation to aircon. Also if you have the air directed only at the screen the stop start wont engage anyway.

I've been sat through roadwork lights recently, and sometimes it just decides to restart because its been sat for over 5 minutes (it has a timer of how long the engine has been off).

There are a bunch of factors that have to be met for the stop-start system to activate.

The main two broadly seem to be:

1) The level of charge in the 12v Battery (Which is slowly depleted while the engine is stopped as it's powering the whole car without help from the alternator!)

2) The temperature (If the engine cools down too much it will start, if the cabin temp is set high and it starts to cool down it will start to build up heat, if the temp is set low with the air-con enabled and the cabin starts to warm up too much, it will start to drive the aircon pump)
