Toyota offering free tracker for C-HR (both generations)

Toyota have confirmed in writing (via X) that it is their intention to fit trackers to all CHR's first and second gen models  The installation includes a free three year subscription for the  monitoring service. The obvious benefit here is  your insurance company may be  giving you a discount. The reason given for all this generosity is Toyota are very concerned about current rise in vehicle theft. Apparently to get this started you have to register an interest with your Toyota dealership.  I enclose screen dumps from "her indoors" correspondence with Toyota using X formerly twitter. Some 2nd gen CHR owners have already had this done. I should point out that this tracker is nothing to do with your MT app which has some tracking abilities.

PS This is not a figment of my imagination.

Yep. My mk1 2022 plate is going in next weds for fitting 🙂

Although I already knew about this, it was the dealer who offered fitting when I picked up car from it's service.

Hopefully will reduce insurance costs

So Toyota have no faith in the factory fitted security system on 2nd gen C-HR?

OR they know another method of theft ( other then theft via OBD ) already exists that isn't public knowledge YET.

I rather suspect that it stems from a lack of faith in their owners (confidence) and/or their own ability to 'recall' (yes, I know it's not a recall) the specific cars that are vulnerable.

Cars produced (built) since around October 2022 are not vulnerable to this specific attack but that hasn't stopped owners of RAV4 PHEVs (which were never vulnerable to this attack at all) having protection plates fitted or more recent cars having trackers fitted. They'll be fitting them to Aygos next ... 🙄

I would have preferred a door with a key and an ignition with a key.

Yep 100% agree. A solution to a problem that never existed but has created more issues as a result
