Failing fuel injectors and now over revving.

Hi All,

2022 Toyota Rav4 Mild Hybrid,  Now at 26500 miles.

In June I have a fuel injector replaced as the car had a rough idle which on the final occasion cause a missfire bad enough to rock the car enough to cause a metal on metal knocking.

Then this week I had a similar but not as servere issue which resulted in 3 more injectors being replaced.
(anyone else had to have injectors replaced?)

Then on my way home from work today, having already done about 100 mins since I got it back from the dealers.
I was coasting on the engine (not hybrid battery) towards traffic lights the engine began to revv quite aggresively, luckily with no acceleration.
It was equivalent to putting your foot on the clutch and holding down the accelerator on a manual.

This happened 4 times on the way home, each whilst doing low speed in near stationary traffic.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Car is booked back in for monday, but frankly i'm having nothing but bad luck with this engine and am leaning towards getting rid of the car.

Thanks
Liam

Hi Liam.

Sounds like something is properly wrong if you've needed that many injectors replacing in a car which is only a couple of years old with 26K miles.

Who is doing the servicing/maintenance?

The data logs should show what's happening. Do you have them or can you get them?

Good luck with getting it sorted.

Get rid of this car.
Once a car start been problematic at such a low miles the issues will never end. Better let them fix it and part ex it for something else.
All the previous Toyota cars fitted with these engines in rav4 and Corolla, Camry are as a result of poor quality petrol sold in uk. Nothing wrong with these cars but everything wrong with this country.

All servicing and repairs done by local Toyota dealership.

So likely just poor build quality of fuel injectors and I imagine a large element of poor UK fuel quality as Tonv has suggested.

Will likely get rid of it before the PCP ends after this. Shame as I got it for a very good price that will be hard to match.

Garage has rang me and told me that one of the fuel injects they just replaced was already bad. Which I think shows poor build quality.
