This has popped up in a Facebook CHR 2024 forum. The correspondence mentions a fault with the "intelligent speed assistance" system which might shed light with my weird ACC behaviour. Can any one shed any light on this new development and I am going to ask LIsters  for their comments.

I have just checked the toyota.ie website and it states that my vehicle is not subject to any recall. I will be interested in hearing what Listers have to say.

Is it a recall - which in the UK is only for safety issues - or something like a Toyota Service Bulletin?

It says on the paperwork its a recall. I am waiting for the dealer's comments.

It’s the ZGG61 recall - Multimedia System Reprogramming update. Toyota are migrating the data to an internal system due to the size/installation time - I’m still waiting for another booking after attending an appointment at my local dealership on 02/10/24 and being told they couldn’t do it 🤷‍♂️

So it isn't a recall, but a customer satisfaction campaign - two different things.

Apologies I though I had posted the image of the communication from Toyota anyway here it is. In reply to Neil it says quite clearly it relates to Intelligent Speed Assistance not anything else. I am waiting to see what comment Listers have to make. They left a message on my mob this morning to call them back which I did but cant reach the right individual who called me so fingers crossed and we shall se what transpires.

Yup its two recalls see PNG file attached for description, and this is straight from Listers this PM. The good news is the dealer wants to book in the car for about an hour no more I have been assured.

This arrived in my post this afternoon and its a bit misleading unless you lead it very carefully. The question here is does this correspondence include the two recalls ? The good news is that the dealer only wants the car for one hour or so I am told. Please see attached JPEG.

One is a safety recall as per the first letter you posted, the second isn't a recall but a customer service campaign which isn't safety related.

Frostballs regardless of that why are Toyota with their vast resources  releasing vehicles to the general public with safety issues dont they test these vehicles ? I am beginning to regret my expensive purchase.

Posted

For God's sake. All vehicle manufacturers have safety recalls on their cars, and the issues often don't materialise until they are with customers.

Toyota are no different in this respect to other manufacturers such as VW, Stellantis, Audi, Ford, JLR, Mazda, Renault, Nissan, Dacia, MG, BYD, Skoda, Seat, Honda, etc, etc.

Hi Frostyballs yes i know all that. I have driven/ridden car/motorcycles for the past 55 years succesfully with few mishaps.

Today i tried to park in a busy Lidl carpark and quite frankly it drove me nuts.  I am now beginning to hate my CHR why ? tasks which were previously simple to perform have now become complex with these myriad of alarms going off which quite frankly i need like a hole in the head. In fact i think they are distracting and dangerous simply because it causes you  to loose your concentration.

Todays modern vehicles are vastly over engineered and i look forward to time when totally autonamous vehicles are the norm and I will no longer have to interpret  stupid distracting  warning signals. Not a day goes by when my CHR emmits warning beeps/boops/dongs/dings which are simply stress inducing and I used to enjoy driving. Rant over.

Yes and the same types of safety systems are on cars from the majority of other manufacturers, and whatever new car you buy nowadays will be similar, whether that is Toyota, VW, or any other.

Back to the topic subject, please.

Yeah that's not a Toyota-caused problem, they're just doing what they need to do by law and to get the highest EuroNCAP ratings.

And be glad Toyota are so pro-active with recalls - Most other manufacturers will ignore critical safety issues until so many people have been killed by them the DVLA finally notices (And given how oblivious they tend to be to the real world that can be quite a hig number!)

We are no longer in the EEC so why is Euro Encap shoveled down Uk drivers throats as it entirely driven by an  EEC authority based in Brussels. The joke here is the UK were the original driving force before we left.

Euro NCAP is totally separate to the EU.

Members of Euro NCAP include the UK's Dept of Transport, Thatcham Research and Horiba-MIRA (a UK automotive engineering and development consultancy).

For the second time, back to the topic subject.

Wow spot the euro-phobe!

Relax! Yes it has the scary 'Euro' word in its name, but it's just an independent safety standards body that covers most of the countries on this particular tectonic plate; It's not even a legal requirement to submit cars to them to be tested, although they will often buy cars themselves to test if they are common.

However, most manufacturers, esp. for mass-market cars, want to score the highest rating possible as it's been shown to increase sales - Who'd want to buy a Zero Stars Fiat Panda over a Five Star Yaris for example? - so they'll work with EuroNCAP to design their cars to score more points, which used to just mean lots of airbags, but unfortunately now also means massive blindspots caused by excessively thick A, B and C pillars, and annoying intrusive ADAS systems.

On the bright side it will also mean physical controls will make a comeback, as they've said they will be docking points for critical controls that use capacitive controls instead of physical ones (So Tesla and VW will likely suffer, bwahahah)

Cyker my point is that current technology has made the cars more dangerous to drive because of their complexity. I disagree with the fact that physical controls will make a comeback as this means we are working backwards so autonomous vehicles will become the norm in fact some of this technology is already here and working.

Louie - these are clearly two separate issues - I had the PKSB update applied to my car before it was delivered to me in early August.

This resulted from complaints by another new C-HR owner in June who also had the Towing Assistance Pack fitted. The PKSB slammed on the brakes every time when he was reversing with his bike carrier/mountain bike attached to the towbar. PKSB is a switchable system which was originally designed to default to ‘On’ when reversing and clearly this conflicted when carrying/towing - the car obviously thinking it was going to collide with an object at the rear 🚨

i also contacted Toyota, my broker and my supplying dealer in June to add weight to the complaint and Toyota came up with the ‘fix’ pretty quickly. It would seem that they have now rolled this as a recall but we are both back in contact with Toyota again as the update switches off the PKSB system completely (both front and rear) and you then have to manually toggle the system back on when driving off forwards.

It’s not an ideal solution and it would work much better if it simply came back on automatically when you shift out of reverse - imagine manoeuvring in/out of a tight parking space or having to make a multi point turn back/forwards. Personally I’m unclear how the other safety systems interact with PKSB but in itself it’s is a useful safety system when manoeuvring slowly. Hopefully I’ll get a response from the dealer/Toyota soon and see what they say 🤷‍♂️

As Forkingabout says, the MMS is a Customer Satisfaction Campaign 👍

I have no issue with Toyota/other manufacturers doing recalls/updates to rectify faults as they appear and I feel it’s useful to be able to contribute and give feedback where appropriate.

Why is it more difficult to park a car in Lidl than it was ten years ago? I still manage it, and I have been driving for a similar length of time to you. At 71 years old, I still drive 44-tonne artics.

Chris cos i am fed up being reminded by my CHR of the following, a man pushing shopping cart, a man driving his van, a lady pushing her pram and other human activity none of which is remotely  close to my vehicle. By the way I am 77 and have never been criticised for my parking ability until now and that's by a machine that I am supposed to be in charge of.

Sorry that was meant in a more tongue-in-cheek tone, but I was a bit triggered by your comment about EuroNCAP, which IIRC was originally founded by a UK institution and as Frosty said, nothing to do with the EU!

It's one of the few examples of a good cross-country co-operative effort and taking a shot at it just because it has the word Euro in its name is undeserved.

Anyway, my point was they will be marking down cars which use touch-controls for important functions so it WILL force a return to physical controls for anyone who wants that 5-star rating! :yahoo:

Louie - I am advised that you can adjust the sensitivity of some of these safety features but the manual isn’t that intuitive to follow. There’s no doubt that these features are here to stay and all manufacturers will have have them.

BTW - seeing as your car is getting the PKSB recall, do you have the factory Towing Solutions Pack fitted 🤔
