Is this what Aygo owners really want?

Aygo X JBL special edition

https://mag.toyota.co.uk/intro-aygo-x-jbl/

A special edition with........a better stereo. Perfect for listening to long slow pieces on Classic FM.

I would have thought a bigger hamster under the bonnet might have been higher up the wish list.

JBL systems a better tuned for Pop, R&B and the like, they tend to be on the bassier side with limited highs

there a a few limited editions whose prices are a bit steep tho like the JBL (usually in orange) and Undercover

Which would bring the Aygo X closer to the Yaris in terms of competing ranges, especially in some European markets where the 1.0 Yaris is available.

We take what we can get, over the years the triplets always been a bit short changed in the 'tunes' department, and it will appeal to the yoof market cos round our way it mainly youngsters or pensioners who drive them, but as you say still room for some 'bangin' Classic FM. As ever the Toyota alloys look nice as well, imo Toyota always done best alloy styles of all the triplet models over years.

Actually Toyota should offer Aygo x with 1.5 petrol in top trims and for them it will be super easy since both Aygo and Yaris are build in the same chassis and Yaris been offered with 1.0 and 1.5 petrol only variants.
However even with only the engine available now the Aygo x is extremely good small car and does feel like much bigger car when driving, just not fast as some may like. For me it’s perfectly fine. This new jbl is a head turner inside and out.

Yeah I'd tend to agree - I always said the original Aygo would have been hilarious if they'd offered it with the 1.4 D4D, and the new one would be equally hilarious with a 1.5 (Or even 1.5 hybrid :naughty: )

Alas as Frosty says it would cannibalize Yaris sales, although the reasons are not so strong now - With the original Aygo it was meant to be cheap cheap cheap, so it made no sense putting in a more expensive drivetrain, but now that that's no longer a requirement it might become a thing!

If that's what the JBL system is supposed to sound like, it makes me think there might be something wrong with mine - Mine is the opposite! It has much worse bass than the stock sound system and is very flat - It sounds great when I'm parked with the engine off, but at any road speed the bass is very anaemic, even with it cranked up to max!

The stock system in the Icon I had as a courtesy car had much stronger bass with all the sliders in the middle by comparison.

The amp/dsp is under the drivers seat iirc it does have a USB port on it, i have wondered if a pc will detect it and if any of the JBL/Harman software will talk to it

Looks like USB Mini

It would also increase insurance costs I imagine, and the base price of the Aygo.

If this JBL Limited edition had been available at the time of purchase of my car a few months ago, I would not have chosen the JBL version.  Firstly, the standard system in the Exclusive with the big screen is really good, and perfectly adequate for what I need whilst driving.  Having said that I do have a custom setting for tone controls which puts the bass up high, mids up a bit and treble about flat, plus the balance front to rear adjusted slightly.

Also not into plain black wheels, albeit in a cool design.

But it's nice that Toyota put out these limited versions to shake things up 😃

At least the uprated speaker system will help drown out the engine screaming to keep up with traffic.

Honestly, my old Aygo X is one car none of my family miss….

An Aygo X without bonkers tyre sizes would be even better 😆

Tell me about it, I looked at some all weather continentals and it was £600 for all four tyres. Not worth putting on for the winters we get now.

Slightly similar to my MK3 Yaris hybrid, now mk4. The MK3 was fine for town and short journeys out of town, but struggle in mid+ distances in fast speed roads bends, country roads. The mk4 out perform it in all aspects including fuel economy.

TBH the Mk4 is a very different car from the Mk3 same as the Aygo > Aygo X

I paid £570 through Black Circles for 18" tyres.  They are being fitted next month.

Yes, but 15% off 2 or more so better than I’m paying

I see some unbelievable low prices on Aygo x Michelin tyres for 17” wheels.
If anyone needs some , now is the time.
https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Michelin/E-Primacy/175-65-R17-87H-EV/R-454679

That’s an incredible price, I had a puncture a couple of months ago, I had to have a new tyre at the cost of £114.99 and that was the cheapest online price available at the time, good find 👍🏻

Edit, only just noticed they are for electric vehicles, can they be fitted to the Aygo X
another edit, google says yes.

I’m tempted to buy a couple and store them in the garage 😀

According to Toyota's website, currently they only use Falkens, but in the past e Premacy tyres were also used.

My October 23 Aygo X came with Goodyear tyres, car manufacturers of all makes, I believe use whichever tyre manufacturer offers the best deal at the time, of satisfactory standard of course.

Back to topic, a decent sound system is a must for me so if I was in the market for an Aygo X, I would look at this. However, they are simply too underpowered. Having driven an Up! recently which absolutely flew and had power to get out the way I would struggle with the Aygo’s lack of performance.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the audio in my 2021 x-play. It's miles better than the Suzuki Swift sport I had and equal to a Fiesta Zetec I'd say. I was watching the rear few mirror vibrate the other day and thought I might have to turn the bass down a bit. I don't have alloys sadly though!

That's insane! I just put Michelin Primacy 4s on all four wheels of my Yaris and that was £370!

Although with the original rims for mine I think it'd be close, maybe £500-600 ish for all 4.

Replacing the 17" rims with 15"s was definitely one of the best decisions I made with this car...!

They are tyres so will go on any car they fit on - The only reason they're marked for EVs is because EVs have terrible range and mulch their tyres so they made them harder, which reduces their rolling resistance so they get a bit more range and also makes them last longer.

However, be aware that the ePrimacys *absolutely suck* in the wet - They have some of the worst ratings for wet weather grip and are almost as bad as budget ditchfinders in the winter - The normal Primacy4/4+ are a much better tyre IMHO as they aren't compromised in trying to mitigate the weaknesses of EVs.

Yeah I always found that a bit weird as on paper they have similar HP - I think the Aygo has slightly longer gearing and the Up! has slightly shorter/overlapping ratios.

You really need to lean into the revs with the Aygo's engine, but it's defintely not slow as evidenced by the sheer number of them flying past me on the motorway  .

They're definitely more suited to people less averse to high revs ("I paid for all the revs so I will USE all the revs damnit!!" ) than people who are used to low-revving turbo diesels though - Took me a while to get over it the first time I drove one, as in my D4D I'd rarely go over 2500rpm and usually operate 1000-1500rpm, but that's barely above stalling in the Aygo

I stalled and lugged that poor thing a LOT until I got over that and learned to embrace the rpm again   It helps the Aygo's engine gets smoother the higher you rev it :naughty: :whistling1:
