The Up! I drove had the more powerful engine option.

What, the turbocharged GTI!?

Well of course *that* would be more powerful than a normal NA Aygo, hardly a fair comparison - I think that's more powerful than my Yaris!

Hmm... do you think it's possible to fit the 8NR-FTS 1.2 turbo into an Aygo...?  :whistling1: :naughty:

We own both an Aygo X and a Citigo 59hp version. The Citigo is quicker, not by much but the higher torque gives it the edge. I grew up with 2 stroke racing motorbikes so reving an engine comes very naturally to me, it might be gutless but I like the Aygo engine, keeps me engaged and I like the noise it makes....weird I know.

Radio seems fine to me. A little tinny, cant add any base in the boot as I have the space saver wheel package in there already.

I had a VW UP! company car back in 2014-15, it was nice to drive, seemed bigger inside then it looked, long gears ratio that made it more economical, the engine was the 1.0 around 60HP (I can't remember for sure), I loved driving it, nice sound system for the size, the only complaint I had as I was driving it hard were the brakes that gave up (warped) around 15-20000 miles due to hard braking.

The engine was a nice naturally aspirated MPI, no issues with it, drove it till about 60000 miles, max speed achieved on the clock was 115 miles/hour, nice suspension setting for it, drove like a bigger car then it is

To be honest I recommended as long as you stay away from any TSI engines

Having been bitten by a TSI I wholeheartedly agree. The Citigo MPI is solid.

I recently drove the 90bhp TSI version, absolutely flew. Previously had a Seat Arona with same engine and I loved driving it as an antidote to my Passat.

Crikey, with the VW TSI engine and the 1.2 PSA engine in Mk2 C1s and 108s, happy to stick with the 'slow' 1.0 Toyota engine in our Mk1 107 and Mk2 108, but they are still a fun drive. Although actually when we got our 107 back in 2008, VW still not released the Up! triplets so wasn't even on our list to choose from and even today if you want a new car, like so many others VW has left the party, so still not on the new car list.

We did look at the VW Up! before when we got our 2nd hand Mk2 108, but Big Sis wasn't keen on the asthestics, but for us it was bigger unknown, unlike our very reliable, cheap to run Toyota based Mk1 107, so it had a hard act to beat.

Must admit having looked at too many rubbish used cars, the Aygo family is creeping back up the pecking order for my run around. I will start another thread to lessen the drift on here about buying older high mileage used. However if I had new car money, and I could learn to live with the limited power, on paper this has most of what i would want. In an ideal world A sunroof would be a nice addition as would smaller wheels.

Fabric sunroof is an option on the two top trims (along with the 18" wheels).

I was referring to the special edition version that is the topic of the thread.

If that's what the JBL system is supposed to sound like, it makes me think there might be something wrong with mine - Mine is the opposite! It has much worse bass than the stock sound system and is very flat - It sounds great when I'm parked with the engine off, but at any road speed the bass is very anaemic, even with it cranked up to max!

The stock system in the Icon I had as a courtesy car had much stronger bass with all the sliders in the middle by comparison.

+1

My cousin had the JBL upgrade in his 2022 Yaris which I sat in his car a few times.  Sound was great (flat) when the car was using electric. At speed however, the bass faded away unless you crank up the volume, but then mid and high become too much and everything went off balance.

I too had retrofitted JBL Speakers in my Aygo MK2 (JBL Stage 3 607CF).  Great clarity across the spectrum except low (probably need an aftermarket amplifier to fix it).  Thankfully, I also had an Active-Subwoofer so anything above 140Hz it will be handled by JBL.  Below 140 will be handled by the In-Phase USW300 subwoofer.

Until recently, I found that the subwoofer can only handle down to 40hz.  The missing 20 to 40.  On one hand, I really don't want to spend an extra £200 and throw the in-phase subwoofer away.  On the other, you feel like you are missing something.

JBL do mid and highs OK anything below 120-150hz they are flat

The In-Phase USW300 is around £100 130w rms at 14.4v so more like 90-100w at 12v if you are using line level from an oem radio it may not be enough to drive it, may be use a line driver and feed it a clean signal with RCAs with the likes of  an Audio control LC1i or LC2i (just remembered your running a 360dab)

Driving those Speakers with an amp will help no end, the Aygo is only a small car a back pack amp will do the job or a mini amp

adding sound deadening to at least the doors makes a massive improvement on most cars, 3 sheets per door is about right (around £25-£35

Thanks, I'm glad its not just me!

Everyone keeps saying how much better the JBL sounds than the stock system and it was starting to make me worried I have some sort of hearing problem

I would say it is a matter of personal preference.

JBL are great if you were an audiophile.  Even though it is weak at low frequencies, it did great at High and Mid. Then the low can be fixed with an extra Subwoofer.  However, I'm sure a lot of people will never go that far with their audio system.  One, not very many people understand music OR can tell what is missing and what to do as a remedy.  Two installing audio equipment in a car can be very costly.

(Reminds me the day I throw in 2 Alpine Speakers in my cousin's 2007 Citroen C1.  For me, the differences in clarity is day and night.  But for my cousin, she can't tell.)

The original Speakers although is stronger at low (bass), but mid and high just doesn't sound right to me.  It sound as the Speakers were trying to deliver the sound a few meters down the hallway (Mid and high had some kind of hollow effect with some of the details being washed.)  For people who listen to Pop / Rock, Sure!  But I listen to everything from Orchestral / Classic / Jazz / Pop to K-Pop.

Yeah the JBL does sound 'sharper', but it makes highs like symbols, violins and certain synth/electronic instruments very grating on the ears when the volume's up to compensate for road noise.

They really should have profiled it for the road noise of the car or something (I thought the ASL setting did that but it just makes the discrepancy worse!)

To be fair it would probably have been fantastic in a car with better NVH, but because the new Yaris is so much more noisy compared to the previous ones the fine sound of the JBL just gets washed out.

I wouldn't have realized if I hadn't had the Icon for a month while mine was getting a new backside - The sound system in the Icon is probably hated by audiophiles as it's like 80's Sony MegaBASS+++ compared to the JBL   But at speed the frequency spread is much better balanced against the road noise.

The problem is where to get the software and/or drivers!

Posted

If it connects to a PC it should give a hardware ID in Dev Man even if it doesn't have a driver, there is JBL and Harman software about
