This question is specifically for the Rav4

Recently when opening the tail gate of my Rav4 using the button on the gate itself. It will open about 3" then stop.

I press the button again and it will open about another 3" and stop again. Pressed again it will open all of the way up.

It closes normally.

If I use the button in the front, it opens and closes normally...........Any ideas please

This would suggest a fault with the button I would think.
A second press of the button when the door is in motion will stop it, so presume the system is seeing a second 'press' after ~3 seconds.
So it must be clearing the contact, then remaking to reissue the command. Suggesting to me a loose contact/short.
Maybe water ingress??
Unless there are other mechanisms that can stop the door moving, like too much back pressure on the mechanism? Do we know what else can make the door stop?

It's not a great problem at the moment, I'll get them to give it a look at it's next service.

Strange thing is, it doesn't always happen.

I  seem to have cured the problem, thanks to a YouTube video. It needed a reset, something which works

on any Toyota SUV with an electric tailgate.  Go into the settings menu and find the part on the tailgate

adjustment and turn it off. Turn the power off and manually open and close the tailgate.  Go back to the menu

and turn the power back on.  I'll check it again tomorrow, but it seems to be operating properly now.

Fingers crossed
