RAV4 longevity and reliability in the league tables

It doesn’t make sense given the Highlander, which does so well, uses mostly RAV4 running gear and platform….. I guess it is also using data presumably from North American built RAV’s so it is possible that may have a bearing.

There is something else going on. It looks like the only one of the top 10 selling compact SUVs to make the top 30 for longevity is the Honda CR-V.

Interesting reading but how many of those that dont make  it maybe dont get serviced annually or have drivers who just thrash it so it doesnt last. My plan is too try and keep the car til at least 2030 and then I'll likely (hopefully) be moving house and will get an ev (Kia EV3 looks great and has decent range...)

Well at the moment I am not surprised to read that the Rav 4 is not in the top 30 most reliable. In the nearby 4 years that I have owned mine from new and now at only 29000 miles it has been in the garage several times for electrical problems. Ironically it has been sat in the dealers since last Friday as it wouldn't go into ready mode again. And before anyone mentions it , no it's not the Battery problem .The car appears to have a massive electrical problem. The AA man had to give up and tow me into Toyota in the end. Car keeps flashing up " move steering wheel from side to side whilst holding start button down" And to rub salt into the wound my dealer has put it on the list but it can't be looked at until 11 November!!!!!!? What a mess. Love the car to bits when it's running but this is getting silly now

Anyone else think that cars are now too clever for their own good with too many gizmo's and gadgets and not enough straightforward solid, reliable engineering?

Past longevity about cars 10 years old, has no bearing on future longevity of new cars. Let's face it RAV4 is just a brand.

An old RAV4 is nothing like a new one.

Or it gets written off.

The article is basically about the probability of a car reaching 250,000 miles ... 🤷‍♂️

They say of the RAV4 hybrid:

Here are key facts about the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

  • Average Lifespan (years): 12.3

Now, the RAV4 hybrid was introduced in 2017 (IIRC) - that's around 7 years ago - so I do wonder what methodology they use to calculate an average lifespan of 12.3 years. It rather feels like "damned lies" to me! 😉

I'm with you.

On the USA forums quite a lot of folks have 250k miles on the car and some past 450k miles. And only minor repairs. So mileage is also a factor in longevity not just elapsed time.

I do also see a lot of them written off after collision with a big truck in the USA.
