Washed my car all by myself yesterday😇. Noticed a crack in the windscreen. No apparent external damage and don't recall an impact. closer inspection and it looked like it was only the internal laminate.

Thought I may as well try it on with dealer expecting to get nowhere so emailed them yesterday.

Phone call this morning:

"Is it behind the rear view mirror?"

Yes

"we've had an alert from Toyota and should be a warranty item"

I think it only affects MY24 and not sure which models but probably worth you checking.

Saved me a load of aggro and paying an excess to get it done myself.

Interesting. Seems this is a known issue on the newer HiLux as well. You'd have thought they'd learned how to make and install windscreens without causing tension by now.

Hopefully you'll get it fixed for free then.

Not a good experience on a new car.
Do you have any pictures to share, it might be helpful to other members to check their windscreens.

It's at the dealer.  It was difficult to see unless the sun was on it. About 6-8cm wide horizontal crack in front of the dotted sticker behind the rear view mirror.

There is a topic on the Yaris forum re a similar crack behind the mirror. Supposedly an issue with the camera heating system.

I’ve found the windscreen on my 23 facelift Corolla to be pretty poor, marking from small stone taps. Things that wouldn’t make a mark on any other car.

plus I had one stone that hit near the rear view mirror, within a minute or so it split into a circular crack that continued to grow over the month it took for the windscreen to be replaced.

I’ve never had a chip cause a circular crack, must be a stressed area near the rear view mirror.

Had it taken longer to fix, perhaps the rear view mirror/camera would have dropped out - the crack was circling them.

at the time there were no aftermarket screens available, only genuine Toyota ones and there were none available.

I'm not sure how much it's the windscreen vs the disgusting state of the roads.

I've never had any windscreen damage in the 2 decades I've been driving but I've suddenly had 2 in the past 2 years - One was a cracked windscreen (Replaced under insurance) and the other a nasty stone chip (Filled under insurance)

Disgusting roads is the key for most problems we have with cars in uk.
Add the fact that fuels are very poor quality and many hybrids owners suffered injectors issues as result. Cars get rusty in less than two years old, stone chips, engine issues etc. welcome to Great British motoring in 2024 😅👌

Won't be long before we're back on horses because nothing with wheels will be able to traverse the ruts and craters!

Or maybe a tank-tread conversion for cars...?

How about a tracked conversion on a giant Hausfrau panzer?

Like the good old days of British Leyland, etc when cars would be rusting through in less than 5 years and turn to dust before 10

Not as bad as Italian though.  My mate had a Lancia that disintegrated in front of your eyes 😂

My sympathies fellow sudden windscreen bad luck buddy!

I'm just glad it was covered by insurance. The first windscreen replacement was quoted nearly a thousand pounds!! No wonder cars get written off so easily nowadays!!

As part of the windscreen replacements now they have to recalibrate the safety camera- I believe this is £300 alone if you don’t have insurance!

it was the reason I had to drive miles to their nearest centre to have it done, when in the past I’ve had a replacement from a mobile van.

It's quoted at just under £340 plus VAT on my quote!

The suspicious thing is my Dashcam didn't record them doing any kind of calibration, but admittedly I don't know what it involves and they could have unplugged it (possible) and plugged it back in again (rare!). I was expecting patterned targets and a test drive at the minimum!
