It would be useful to see what other Mazda dealers are charging for services.
I'll start the ball rolling and hope you can share your dealer location and costs.

1st Service, JCT600 Leeds, £163, 2023

2nd service quote, Stoneacre Dewsbury, £440, 2024

2nd service quote, Burrows York, £340, 2024

This is a Toyota forum, there's hardly anyone that has a rebadged Yaris hybrid here. The 1st service of the Mazda hybrid is cheaper than toyota.

230

315

Fair comment, but we own a Mazda 2 Hybrid, which is a Toyota in drag, so I think my post is fair content.
I do know there are other Mazda 2 Hybrid owners on this forum and were openly welcomed.
Maybe a specific section could be created for us?

I'm just trying to get a flavour of service pricing, Toyota or Mazda, because Stoneacre are being particularly aggressive in their phone calls with upselling.

Mazda 2 hybrid owners are welcome to the Club as these, unlike the non-hybrid Mazda 2, are Toyota Yaris clones.

Similarly, Suzuki Swace and Suzuki Across are also welcome as these are clones of the Toyota Corolla and Rav4 PHEV.

Replies on Mazda servicing costs will probably be limited as the number of Mazda 2 hybrid owners who are members, are relatively few.

We are not going to have a separate forum for the Mazda 2 hybrid, Suzuki Swace or Suzuki Across.

We know it's a Yaris so no need - The cross pollination can help, e.g. I know thanks to a Mazda 2 hybrid owner that I can get TPMS sensors from a mazda dealer for a fraction of what Toyota want for them! :naughty:

Toyota dealers tend to honour the fixed price servicing specified by Toyota, which is currently 230 for the minor and 315 for the major as Mojo says.

On a slight tangent, one gripe I have is I've been charged £50-something for an MOT ever since I've been using this dealer but they only charged my Auris-driving colleague £30!! On my Mk4's first MOT I queried them about this and they swore blind that's not a thing, but after I gave them his reg they couldn't deny that's what they were charging him as their records showed it. They still wouldn't do it for £30 but did drop it to £40 as a goodwill gesture, but still what's up with that!?

My 3 year service plan Inc an MOT and 3 years AA cover is a fixed £28 a month so fix and forget. May or may not be a bargain but safe from price rises.

The Toyota 3 year service plan with 3 services the extra 2 years AA cover and a mot was quoted to me as £1008 or £28 a month but I had money left over from a previous plan that reduced it to £15 a month.

These prices are high.
Honestly for all folks living in a houses with driveways and ability to service they cars after year 3 the dealer should be seen only like a parts warehouse.
Extended warranty ok for those who does not have options for diy service but for diy oriented owners really make no sense to go to any garage at all.
These cars are bullet proof. Through out their life or until they become teenagers at least they will need nothing but yearly service - oil £35-40, filter £15, cabin filter £10. Air filter £10-15 once every 30-40k miles or 3-4 years.
Wiper Blades every two years or 20k miles plus. Brake fluid £20 every two years. Hybrid Battery filter £20 every 2-3 years. Spark plugs every 60k miles, no time intervals. And tyres depending on use. AC regas £150 every 2-4 years . That’s it . Savings are huge to cover any eventual major faults plus you will have a lots of money saved from not servicing in the dealer to cover any headlights replacement as these does burnt and cost up to £1000 per side. , and not covered under warranty.

Mazda 2 Hybrid 2nd service done at Burrows Mazda York.
Despite the manual stating oil should be SAE 0W-8, they didn't have any.
The Mazda manual states that it should be SAE 0W-8 but the service manager at Burrows showed me the Mazda recommendation for my vehicle as Supra X 0W-20.
Even suggests SAE 5E-30 is OK to use.
I would be interested if other Mazda/Toyota owners experiences.

Cost was £300, reduced from £340.
It's the interior carbon filter that bumps up the price significantly costing £86 !
Asked about firmware update for charging 12V system - nothing noted in recalls or advisories.

Overall their customer service was very good but I complained about the stupid online check in texts (I got 3).
I didn't "check in" as its an upselling exercise, very annoying.

You can insist on it, esp. as that is the recommended oil.

Higher weight 0w oils won't be too bad for the car, but you'll likely notice a drop in average mpg if you generally drive very efficiently.

5w30 is only for emergency temporary use in the absence of anything more suitable though - It's cold-flow characteristics are much worse than 0w8, esp. with the tight tolerances of the M15A engines .

The problem Mazda dealers will have is no other Mazda runs on 0w8 so they probably don't keep stocks of it and would have to get it in specially so unless you explicitly tell them they'll just use whatever they have to hand.

One thing I will praise Jemca Enfield for is they have always put in 0w8 without me asking (Or at least are smart enough to put that on the sheet  )

0w20 will be ok but 5w30 definitely not.
As mentioned only as an emergency use and replace soon after.
Basically almost any new oil will do a job, how good and for how long is another matter.
If you want your engine to work at its best and for longest best practice is to stay within the manufacturer recommended viscosity and type.
Any deviation from the oem specs bring possible risk of things going bad.
Maybe not in your next oil change or one after but with each engine start the wrong oil will affect so slightly the engine internals and with the time mileage the engine will start to burn oil, increase fuel consumption, become noisy, and some parts may even fail as a result.
Why a simple things like an oil change needs to be so complicated and difficult. If it’s says 0w8 use 0w8 , …dealers.
