Corolla GR sport adding contacts

Hi! First time owner of a corolla. I've got the GRSport 73 plate and whilst I can navigate most of the menus fine, I can't seem to be able to add contacts to the favourites list? The little heart symbol is there next to the contact but nothing happens when I touch it? 

What I loved about the yaris was that you could select 4 contacts who would always be shown on screen for easy single touch calling. 

Am I doing something wrong?
