This is something Toyota could have solved by establishing a drain hole at the bottom of the the charger socket. I am getting fed up constantly having to mop up the puddle of water in the socket (see pic). The image was acquired after I had mopped a much larger puddle in the socket.

I don't have the luxury of a being able to stuff my CHR into the garage at present as its full of "junk" at present.

The good news is you can purchase a waterproof conical hood for about £9 to drape over the socket. The hood can be stuck magnetically to the bodywork above the socket (see pics). I have only just taken delivery so about to try it out and will keep members informed. Item can be purchased on Amazon however there are many variants so caution is advised so don't purchase the first offering you see.

Sad to see C-HR having same problem as other models. I have Volvo XC60 T8 and I'm experiencing similar issue. However, I decided to leave it alone. The housing of the socket is made out of hard, waterproof plastic. It will be fine. And if it's not, and water causes some damage, then this should be sorted out under warranty claim, am I right?

By the way this condom looks awful. 😄

Hi Piorunz there is nothing to stop the sockets getting waterlogged with water condensate from the water pool inside the socket and I am not talking about a couple of drops. The least Toyota should have done is included an additional cover for the actual socket or built a drain hole. Electricity and water is never a good combo what were Toyota thinking ?😖

Feed your disappointment back to Toyota & they will likely Kaizen it.

Hi all sorry to bore you to death with all my CHR minor critiques but  after having mopped up my charging socket 3 days ago its still wet and after a bit of head scratching I have discovered why. The cavity (see pic) where the  hinge cover folds into appears to act as a container for water after its pooled in the main socket. I am about to try my "condom" as described by piorunz but its irritatingly stopped raining and will keep you guys posted after more showers arrive.

Forkingabout yup "her indoors "will be X ing Toyota who are quite good at a quick response and she is on the ball here.  I don't do social media of any kind for a thousand reasons unless you can possibly classify this forum as one this therefore being the exception

Hi Folks so pleased with my "Condom" last night which was somewhat soggy  and protected s*x with " Clarice" proved to be quite successful so much so I have just purchased another on Amazon. See pics.

Nice, looks like it's a good fit.  Thanks for sharing Louie!

The other issue is if you have a cold damp night  and you park your CHR outside  you don't need rain to get wet  car bodywork and water accumulation in the charging socket. So my "condom" did its job and protected the socket and at £9.99 on Amazon it does its job. The "condom" does  get wet on the outside cover  but being made of plastic material its easy to shake of any moisture and dry. My advice would be to get a spare they are cheap enough.

I’m not with my car atm but is there a drain hole in the fuel filler cap surround 🤔

Posted

Neil there are no drain holes in my CHR Design PHEV  charger socket. I am not sure what that depression at 6 0clock on the petrol filler surround is. On closer examination that does not look like a drain hole in any event it would be strange place to have one.    (see pic). I could be wrong though.
